The Dynamo have traded Kei Kamara to the Kansas City Wizards for forward Abe Thompson and allocation money.
Kamara who would have been out of contract at the end of the year has been sporadic in his play and his not particularly meshed with Brian Ching.
Ironically it is KC where Kamara scored a powerful header and broke into a Michael Jackson tribute that Kamara will end up at.
The Dynamo looking to get cash and something of value for Kamara who played at Cal State Dominguez Hills and was discovered by Sigi Schmid.
The Dynamo clearly felt the time was right to make the trade based on getting something of value for Kamara .
Abe Thompson has never been a prolific goal scorer in MLS yet has a solid skill set and should be motivated to be leaving KC to come to the Dynamo and Houston.
The Dynamo had also been continuing the pursuit of Joseph Ngwenya who did not accept a Dynamo offer before the signing of Luis Landin.
The Dynamo countered after the Landin signing and Ngwenya did not accept the offer again.

Glenn- Looks like Kamara has burned yet another bridge. Remember reading that the Earthquake locker room celebrated when Kamara was shipped out.
I suspect he’s more interested in the name on back of jersey instead of team name on front.
Speaking of jersey’s see on FSC that Liverpool set to sign new huge shirt deal.
This off season MLS should make getting remaining teams, KC, Dallas, Colorado,N.E. shirt deals.
Assume Philadelphia Union will have one as team is very slow to release apparel.
Kamara’s trade was a shocker to be sure. Weaver played very well in the Columbus game which incidentally was the most physical game I have seen all year. There was no quarter taken or given in that game. I suppose he became expendable with Weaver’s return and subsequent play although the Chronicle seems to imply there was some sort of rift between Don and Kamara which no doubt contributed to his release. In any case, Landin will develope much slower than I anticipated but with Weaver, Ching and Oduro and now Thompson, we seem to be stocked pretty well at forward. I am still disappointed in the passing of the Orange. They would have won that game if Davis was in the lineup. Ashe has plenty of speed but his passing is not up with Davis. I still say Holden needs to shoot more. The man can rocket the ball from either leg and his balance and vision is incredible. They need to keep this player for the next several years at least. The guy is a star! If the Orange continue to play like they did Sunday, they will win the Cup. I have no doubt in my mind.
On another note, MLS-Rumors.net is reporting that every team except Colorado, Houston, Seattle and Toronto will make home and away or home changes to their uniforms next season. Even the Galaxy which in my estimation has the nicest looking kit in the league will make a change to their home uniforms. I was hoping the Orange would make a tweek or two but not according to that article. They plan to stay pat.
The Dynamo signed Kei Kamara for two reasons. Fill the void when Ching is injured or away w/the USMNT, and complement Brian when he’s in the lineup. Unfortunately Kei failed on both counts. Kamara never flourished here and was never going to because although he is a gifted athletic specimen, his technical limitations were exposed game in and game out. He did score some nice goals but they were too few and far between, especially on the days and nights when the Dynamo needed him most, when Ching was away. By most accounts, Kei is a likable guy but I won’t miss his awful touch and utterly shambolic finishing. I only wish we could worked a deal to bring Davy Arnaud back home to Texas instead of Abe Thompson. Just like Pat Ianni, Kei Kamara was given plenty of chances to prove himself and frankly, he didn’t.
Are you listening Corey Ashe.
And enough w/the Joe Ngwenya soap opera. We’re chasing him around the globe as if he were Sameul Eto’o. The guy clearly doesn’t want to come here and he has made this known for two seasons now. Move on Dynamo!
I kind of liked Kamara’s speed and skill, but of course I would prefer a Ching/Landin type of player. As in a player that can defend and hold the ball up front and make passes. I don’t know about the Joe pursuit soap opera; he was good but not get on our knees and beg for him back good. The Houston Dynamo needs some collective pride, and should just give up on Joe. The money can come in handy to pay for Landin, so we don’t end up sacrificing too much on him. I am pretty confident that if this new guy has any talent Dom will bring it out on him. Landin will progress, but he’s a little “inexperienced” to have the weight of a team placed on his shoulders as a Pachuca fan I would know about his faults.
About going for another team; I think that it has been well documented on this site that first and foremost I am Tuzo/Pachuca fan and second string a Houston Dynamo fan.
It just shows you it is a business like anything else. Players, coaches and the front office should treat it as that. The only value you have as a player in the MLS is what you can do on the field (except if you are Beckham).
Kai should treat it as a business and not feel sligthed in the bit. Sports is very cut throat and you have to understand when players try to get the best deal possible for them because it doesn’t last long.
We appluad Kei for his service here and wish you the best of luck. Like Glen mentioned the timing was mainly for the Dynamo to get someting of value in a trade vs. not resigning him at the end of the season and not getting something of value. It happens in all professional sports. I think the biggest motivation for the trade is to attempt to keep Holden who is also out of contract at the end of the season and Rico\’s replacement if his move does go thru.
