International soccer at the Rob “Orange” style/ Manchester United come from behind over Wolfsburg

twitter.com: Soccermattersgd

It is one of those rare evenings and this night will bring Pachuca of Mexico to face the Dynamo.
I know the 9pm start is a late one but will you be there to see the Dynamo/Pachuca lore continue?

Podcast of Dynamo All Access with Glenn Davis is up at 790thesportsanimal.com

Manchester United had a slow start against a game Wolfsburg from Germany but claimed a 2-1 win behind goals from Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick.
A couple of thoughts:

* I love Grafite the Brazilian for Wolfsburg, straight ahead , no nonsense he is going forward.

*Don’t let anyone ever tell you that Manchester United has no threat out of central midfield. Michael Carrick is always a threat out of the central midfield area and opponents have to honor that. He scored the game winner today, this is not a stay at home central midfield player, he is a threat with his long range shooting ability and timeliness of the moments that he wants to join in the attack.

*Dimitar Berbatov came on for Michael Owen and is really not a goal scorer at United but a “provider”. He floats and tempts defenders in areas around the box and magically keeps things moving with his mindset. Fantastic soccer player.

Victor Delgadillo was laid to rest today and I only can say the testimony of those who spoke was wonderful. He was a pillar in our soccer community that has touched the lives of many through his passion and vision of soccer. Gracias por todo Victor. If you did not know about him please take the time to learn something about him as he was a true pioneer of the game in this community.

From the undefeated ranks they fall to a “champion” of futbol in Houston

twitter.com: Soccermattersgd

Chelsea got beat by Wigan Athletic 3-1 on the road and I can only say with all due credit to Wigan that Chelsea tried to win this one on cruise control.
Just to keep it all in perspective it was amazing to see how poor they defended corners and how loose they played.
All credit to Wigan.
Inter were beaten by Sampdoria 1-0 (reminds me of the great Roberto Mancini) to get knocked from the unbeaten ranks also in Italy.

Tomorrow the U.S. under 20 in action at the U20 World Cup and lets hope to see a response after a 3-0 loss to Germany that was less than impressive.

Pachuca got beat at Santos this past weekend so I am wondering how this effects their mindset coming into Wednesday. Get your tickets at Houstondynamo.com and get out to Robertson and lets get a crowd for a weeknight international soccer match!!! What an opportunity for all. Of course the 9pm start time is tough but lets suck it up.
We are one of the fortunate markets in MLS to get international competition and it doesn’t get better than this in our region of the world. Beware of the Tuzos and Damian Alvarez!
Dynamo have a history of great performances against this club. Only wish Luis Landin was not cup-tied.
Definition of the word CUP TIED: Means he can’t play for the Dynamo have performed with another club prior in the competition.

VICTOR DELGADILLO passed away this weekend and his story is an amazing one. In short, this man new the sport of soccer was a great unifier that brought people together.
I will be talking more about Victor on the radio Tuesday plus keep an eye out for Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis presented by MEMORIAL HERMANN SPORTS MEDICINE INSTITUTE on Fox Sports Houston this week on Tuesday at 5pm and Thursday a fresh edition which is being taped today at Robertson which will air Thursday at 5pm and Friday at 3pm.

Team Warzycha 2 Team Arena 0 which translates to Crew 2 LA 0…….

The Columbus Crew knocked off the LA Galaxy 2-0 in Columbus behind goals from Eddie Gaven and Steven Lenhart.
Columbus were the deserved winners against a blase LA Galaxy who were without David Beckham on a wet and rainy Ohio night.
Landon Donovan also did not look very interested in this match which could have propelled the Galaxy to the best overall record in the league.
Columbus now has the most overall points in MLS but do the Houston Dynamo a favor by keeping the Galaxy at bay. The Dynamo LA game later in this month could have huge implications.
The Crew are now 9-0-4 at this point at home in MLS and clearly have to be the team that you consider the front runner for the MLS Cup.

U.S. U20’s lose at Fifa U20 World Cup

The U.S. under 20 team looked less than impressive today in a 3-0 loss against Germany in Suez, Egypt. Brek Shea from Brenham, Texas started for the U.S.

Brian Ching signs new deal with the Dynamo..Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis today at 3pm on Fox Sports Houston presented by Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute

Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis on Fox Sports Houston today at 3pm presented by MEMORIAL HERMANN SPORTS MEDICINE INSTITUTE…
twitter.com: Soccermattersgd

Dynamo striker Brian Ching has inked a new four year deal with the the Houston Dynamo according to Fox 26 Sports.
Ok, I think we all knew that this is what the announcement would be tomorrow at the press conference involving Ching.
The Dynamo have done good work here to lock in Ching on a standard 4 year MLS deal and quite frankly he is deserving of the stability and guarantees that come with a longer term commitment after what he has done for the club.
“We didn’t have to do this,” said CEO Chris Canetti. “He was under contract.”
“We felt it was fair to tear up his contract and reward Brian. Few players in MLS have had the impact on their teams that Brian has had as a Dynamo.”
Ching is a three time All Star, a late bloomer with the national team and helped lead the Dynamo to two MLS Cups.
I personally have enjoyed seemed him produce in Houston and grow in stature with the general sports public.

The move is also good business from the Houston Dynamo. Lets not forget when Houston Sports legends Hakeem Olajuwon headed to Toronto and Nolan Ryan to the Texas Rangers to finish out careers as opposed to remaining in the city. The move also is interesting because it is being done before the World Cup and it could prove to be motivating for Ching in the final few weeks of the season. It is nice to be appreciated by your club and the fans have showered their applause on Ching throughout his time in Houston which began with a stunning foru goal performance against the Colorado Rapids on the return of professional soccer in 2006.

Ching is expected to make the final U.S. national team roster that should be headed to South Africa for the World Cup in 2010. The U.S. have two remaining qualifiers at Honduras and home to Costa Rica.

CRUZ AZUL knock off the Crew 2-0
I caught the broadcast of Columbus against Cruz Azul last night from Crew Stadium and was disappointed in the light turn-out for an intriguing game.
Of course Cruz Azul is the former squad of Luis Landin and also includes former FC Dallas and Chivas USA midfielder Ramon Nunez whose stock has risen once he left MLS.
He is a starter as well with the Honduran national team on many occasions.
I am still a big fan of Robbie Rodgers merely for the fact that he can beat people off the dribble. Makes a game interesting.

Pachuca’s Juan Cacho and Paul Aguilar to miss game with Dynamo next Wednesday due to Mexico call up…

Pachuca will be missing both Juan Cacho and Paul Aguilar in next Wednesday’s Sept. 30th Concacaf Champions League match.
The duo have been called up by Javier Aguirre to represent Mexico against Colombia at the Cotton Bowl on the same evening.
Both players started in the recent 2-0 win over the Dynamo in Pachuca and Aguilar scored the game’s second goal after turning defender Bobby Boswell and beating Tally Hall.
The rest of the Mexico roster looks like this:

Goalkeepers: Gullermo Ochoa, Jose Corona

Defenders: Jonny Magallon, Jose Castro, Edgar Duenas, Paul Aguilar, Hugo Ayala, Oscar Rojas, Patricio Araujo.

Midfielders: Gerardo Torrado, Jonathan Dos Santos, Braulio Luna, Edgar Pacheco

Forwards: Omar Arellano, Nestor Calderon, Juan Cacho, Javier Hernandez, Enrique Esqueda

A blast from the past including Braulio Luna. Interesting choice of Gio Dos Santos brother 19 year old Jonathan who plays at Barcelona.

So what do you think of this Mexican roster?
