Thoughts on the Dynamo loss at FC Dallas………..Ching, Clark and Holden called in to U.S. National team
It was not pretty in Frisco last night.
The Dynamo lacked energy and had spurts of their possession game but in the end it was FC Dallas who were the better team on the night winning 1-0 on a 20th minute Jeff Cunningham in front of a sparse crowd. It was the first time FC Dallas had won 2 games in a row and it was a win that they will savor as it is a rarity over the Dynamo.
In fact the Dynamo had only lost once in 13 regular season games against FC Dallas prior to last night.
Some thoughts:
* The Dynamo looked a fatigued team to me leading to more unforced errors and a struggle to consistently find their possession game. FC Dallas came out with energy from their 6-0 win against KC the weekend before and were the better team early and could have scored another 2 goals . Brek Shea hit the crossbar with a header, Cunningham missed a first minute chance and a penalty kick.
The best moments for the Dynamo on the night came in the second part of the first half where they threaten and had a decent chance through Dominic Oduro and a couple of promising attacks that lacked a final ball but in the end this was a poor performance by Dynamo standards.
* How clear was the abscence of Brian Ching in the second half? It was clear how impactful he is. Kei Kamara off the bench added little, Dominic Oduro became less effective without Ching and Dallas had a new found spirit and athleticism with Attiba Harris (not a great technical player but physical) and Jair Benetiz their new Colombian.
Cory Ashe had a hard time playing on the right but was their to counter Brek Shea……Dynamo manager Dominic Kinnear made it clear before the game that he was playing Brian Ching 45 minutes and Kei Kamara 45 minutes.
* Brad Davis ejection was silly from a fourth official who looked like he had a bit of ego in this one but in MLS one can not give referees opportunity to make decisions. I have a call in to Joe Machnik of MLS who is going to clear this up and tell me why Davis was ejected. (Machnik says it was because of Davis moving off the bench) Another question though is why was Davis still on the bench and not in the locker room showered? It is a fair point but did this really have to be a red card. Setting a precedent about bench control?
What is worse is that Davis now is not available against Chicago which all of a sudden is a more important game based on last night’s result. With injury and other issues like national team call-ups and Concacaf Champions League right around the corner the volume of intensity of travel, matches and training is going to grow even more for the Dynamo.
It was for me one of the best performances of the year that I have seen out of FC Dallas….
BRIAN CHING, STUART HOLDEN and RICARDO CLARK all were called in for the U.S. National for Wednesday’s match against Mexico!!!
Give me your thoughts on last night’s match?
