My last article in the Houston Chronicle (chron.com) addressed the issue of the way teams play and the identity they create.
Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola made it very clear that Barcelona were going to play “their” skilled , attacking football before their Champions League final against Manchester United.
No aberrations here and a team that not only plays to win but has a particular style and approach to the game that is demanded by the fans.

So when I relate this to MLS I believe it is extremely important that clubs produce a particular purpose of play that the fans can identify with because it can lead directly to filling seats.
This purpose of play has to be communicated to the front office staff, and most importantly believed in by the technical staff and soccer operations directors, the entire coaching staff and players.
Clearly the Dynamo and teams like DC United have defined “purpose of play” but have other clubs in MLS? Do you as a fan want to see a team play a particular way or are you content with teams that defend deep and luck for a break or a mistake provided that they win. Is winning enough?
