Wondoloski traded to San Jose for striker Cam Weaver

The striker stockpiling continues for the Dynamo as Chris Wondoloski has been traded to San Jose for a more target type forward in Cam Weaver.
Wondoloski , who has been a great servant to the Dynamo was in the last year of his contract.
Weaver has yet to prove himself out as a striker in MLS but did get a goal against the Dynamo in a 3-2 win earlier in the season.
He lists at 6″2 and has played overseas and in the USL.
So what to make of this trade acquiring Weaver? First, small subtle trades can sometimes be the difference. A trade or acquisition that does not seem significant can end up being a huge addition. Can anyone say Andrew Hainault?
Weaver is an additional target type striker that fits perfectly at Robertson Stadium where penalty area play is vital. A striker that with a change of scenery comes in to the Dynamo environment hoping to jump start his career. He joins Ade Akinbiyi and Dominic Oduro as other strikers vying for playing time and goals!
As for Wondoloski I have to say he was a true gentleman and will leave the Dynamo with his last impression of that being a goal off the bench in New York.
Best of luck to Wondo in San Jose…….What do you think of this trade?

Maradona mastermind, Kaka $92 million and Houston’s heroes………..

I like many of you was interested when Diego Maradona became the coach of Argentina. Amazingly gifted, legendary player, off field nightmare and egomaniac to take over legendary soccer playing nation’s national team. Like many of you I also had large reservations and still do. Put anyone in charge of Argentina and trot 11 players out and the chances of winning are pretty good.
Ok, maybe that is an exaggeration but………Argentina are less safe with Maradona in charge and are not unbeatable and teams are beginning to realize that.
Lets go back to their 6-1 slaughter in La Paz, Bolivia where ungodly altitude severely handicaps any opponent. The Argentine icon got it all wrong. Yes, I know it is at altitude and few ever win in Bolivia .
Except for Venezuela that is who recently came off a 1-0 win there. So how did they do it?
Apparently Venezuela had a long camp at altitude which helped to acclimate their players and negate the effects.
Which leads me to Wednesday World Cup qualifying where Argentina play Ecuador in Quito and get another shot at altitude albeit not like in La Paz.
Diego has apparently said that Argentina will defend deep and play for the counter attack.

GO DIEGO GO!

Is it obscene?
Buying Kaka for $92 million ? That is what Real Madrid are apparently paying AC Milan for the Brazilian footballer. Kaka is doing the honorable thing and letting himself be sold so that AC Milan can get their finances together. Ok?

RICO RESPONDS
Lets just examine how quickly things can change in the world of professional soccer. Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark was looking from the outside in on the U.S. National team. He was not called up for recent World Cup qualifiers and then a lambasting in Costa Rica 3-1 made Clark a valuable commodity. He got called in for the second match against Honduras, shined and he is now moved up in the pecking order of U.S. midfielders. Clark is now in South Africa with the U.S. to play in the Confederation’s Cup against the likes of Italy, Brazil and Egypt. Amazing turn around and Clark lived up to the moment of being brought in on short notice.
Compare that to Brian Ching whose position up front seemed as secure as it can be. Ching injured his hamstring missed both qualifiers and now is also going to miss the Confederations Cup.
Talk about a reversal of fortunes.

GIORGIO BORLENGHI
The former owner of the Houston Hotshots indoor soccer team from 1994 to 1999 is a FIESTA HOUSTON SOCCER UNSUNG HERO. How do I know? He was honored last night on Dynamo All Access on 790 Am. Borlenghi sunk his personal passion and finances into the team that twice got to league finals. In the first year the Hotshots struggled and even had a female player on the team.
Borlenghi’s family in Italy thought he was crazy dabbling in indoor soccer but in the end it was a postive for the Houston soccer community. Borlenghi was a Juventus fan if memory serves me correct.
