U.S. beat T&T and while Mexico beaten in Honduras /Akinbiyi not available Saturday

The U.S. produced a good performance in a 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago getting three goals from Jozy Altidore.
It looks like the door has now been opened to get the young striker more minutes in preparation for the 2010 World Cup.
What other choice at this point is there really up front? It seems clearly to be Brian Ching and Altidore for the moment.
This despite the fact that Altidore is not getting minutes at Xerez in Spain.
Fast tracking him in the next year will be the norm.
It was a good performance from the U.S although I was hoping that they would bury T&T during the first 25 minutes when they were running through them at will. Now to be fair, this was not a good team but then again the U.S. won convincingly on the scoreline.
Nashville drew 28,000 fans for this match.

Meanwhile Mexican problems continue in Honduras as they were beaten 3-1. Former LA Galaxy striker Carlos Pavon, yeah you remember the man who couldn’t score goals with David Beckham and Landon Donovan in the lineup had one of the goals for Honduras. C. Costly had the other two. Carlos Salcido ejected while Nery Castillo produced the lone Mexican goal.

He is an example of an American player that made a career overseas that didn’t get alot of attention although he did play a large part in U.S. success in the 2002 World Cup. Greg Berthalter is expected to return to MLS from 1860 Munich. Not yet announced what team he will join. Anyone looking for a center back?

PLAY OF THE GAME: Brian Ching drags out center back to a wide position and flicks his header into the space he pulled defender out to Landon Donovan. Donvan finds Altidore for the eventual game winner in the first half. A great goal.
Give me your thoughts on this one and the 6-1 Argentina loss to Bolivia.

AKINBIYI NOT AVAILABLE
Ade Akinbiyi will not be available this Saturday for the Dynamo in DC. Akinbiyi will join the team for training next week.
One wonders after playing both matches for the U.S. National team what Brian Ching will have in the tank this weekend in the nation’s capital? Still looking for a first win the Dynamo would sure love to have him available yet you don’t want to risk a fatigued player to injury.

Last I looked Mexico was down 2-0 in Honduras. One of the goal scorers for Honduras….Believe it or not , Carlos Pavon.

Bolivia 6 Argentina 1 in World Cup qualifying / Progress on Dynamo training facility

This is not April fools.
Argentina were crushed in La Paz, Bolivia 6-1 behind a hat trick from Joaquin Botero in South American World Cup qualifying. The same Joaquin Botero that the Dynamo had considered. Now before you get too crazy, remember that playing in La Paz at altitude is probably the biggest advantage for any country in the world. Then again Argentina field names like Lionel Messi, Fernando Gago, Gabriel Heinze, Javier Zanetti, and Carlos Tevez.
Argentina and Maradona is still a question in my mind and I hope Diego doesn’t break out the air gun.

England defeated the Ukraine 2-1 behind goals from Peter Crouch and John Terry. Andri Shevchenko hit for the Ukraine.

THUBS UP!!
Item #48 on the agenda passed and the city deserves some credit here. This makes the soccer facility for the Dynamo and the community that much closer to reality. Now how about the front page of the Houston Chronicle with our city planning it’s pwn stimulus. City council may vote to remiburse developers and kick start multi-million dollar projects like the 4 million square foot, $850 million mixed use development that the city said was going to be put on hold.
If council approves the company will get $10 million in re-imbursements. The reimbursements would come through Memorial Heights Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ).

What is on your soccer mind?
