The word is on the street that Dynamo fans will be making their way to Austin this weekend to catch the Dynamo in action against the Austin Aztex of the USL.
El Battalon, Texian Army and Kategori H it seems are making their way to the Capital. Look forward to seeing Dynamo fans up there . The Dynamo will only be two weeks away from their 2009 home opener against the Columbus Crew. Incidentally, the Crew will be in Austin the following weekend to take on Austin.
Head over to AustinAztex.com to find out more about the team.
Here are a few players to keep an eye on: Kyle Brown- former Dynamo reserve player of the year.
Gifton Noel Williams- 6′3 striker helped Watford get promoted to EPL, also played at Stoke City.
Lance Key- is this the former Colorado Rapid defender who retired from MLS from concussion problems?
AJ Godbolt- won an NCAA title at Maryland.

Did you see the ultimate collapse last night? It was like they were running in sand. Montreal Impact scored two road goals to go along with their opening 2-0 win in Montreal and it still was not enough as they were knocked out of the Concacaf Champions League after conceding two stoppage time goals in front of delirious Santos Laguna fans. Santos were trailing at one point 4-1 on aggregate before producing 4 second half goals. They now face Atlante in the semi-finals. The other semi-final match-up includes the upstart Puerto Rico Islanders against Cruz Azul. Former youth player Sandi Gbandi who played at Cy-Fair Dynamos is a member of Puerto Rico. Gbandi is the brother of Chris Gbandi a former Hermann Award winner who currently plays in Europe. This is just another example of the reach of Houston area soccer players in the world of soccer.
So again it looks like a Mexican Club will go to the World Club Cup unless Puerto Rico continue on their amazing run.
The USL clearly gains great credibility from their run in this tournament and wins over foreign competition.

Don’t miss this one especially since Atletico Madrid comes off an amazing result in an amazing game last weekend over Barcelona. Can Atletico knock off the two Spanish League giants on back to back weekends? This is a huge story in European football right now and something tells me that Sergio Aguero could have a say in determining this match.
Real Madrid has won 10 in a row in La Liga play and are only four points behind Barcelona .
Former Manchester United player Diego Forlan who scored a brilliant long range goal against Barca last weekend will start alongside Aguero while Atletico also will welcome back Luis Perea into their group of four defenders. If you miss this one then record it!!!!

ENGLISH SOCCER TEAM targeting U.S. buyers

Tranmere Rovers is for sale and they would like an American owner. The club has hired an American firm to sell a majority share for $6.5 million according to the SportsBusiness Daily. Dornoch Capital a North Carolina firm. Part of the deal states that the new buyer has to put $4.5 million dollars into the club over the next four years.
The idea is that Tranmere will partner with an MLS Club.
Tranmere is located in Northern England near Liverpool. Got some extra cash laying around?

*By the way in Richard Justice’s article today on Tyler Deric you have to applaud the way that Dominic Kinnear and James Clarkson stayed in integrity in dealing with a young man that was having some trouble. Kinnear and Clarkson’s dealing with the situation is a lesson for all when working with youth. So many times we are going over-board with praise only to see a let-down at the next level that shocks a talented young player. The fact remains that the right messages have to be sent with youth soccer players and that a balance of healthy praise and grounding is what is needed.
I weigh in on Deric in my column this Saturday and what it represents.

*Thanks for the emails on the whereabouts of my column in the Houston Chronicle. Don’t fear the soccer page has been moved to Saturday so be on the lookout for it.
Thanks for all the emails………
