Dynamo defender Eddie Robinson elected to Hall of Fame

eddie-robinson.jpg

HOUSTON DYNAMO defender EDDIE ROBINSON has been elected into the GREENSBORO Soccer Hall of Fame.
Robinson has been an ALL STAR defender in Major League Soccer and has played for the SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES and the DYNAMO.

The 30 year old ROBINSON will be expected to be a huge focal point defensively for the DYNAMO heading into the 2009 season. Last year his play was inconsistent due to injury and suspension. With BOBBY BOSWELL seeking opportunity in Europe (not signed) the play of ROBINSON will be even more important in the coming year.
The DYNAMO have added young , athletic center-back JULIUS JAMES acquired in the DWAYNE DEROSARIO trade.
PATRICK IANNI does remain an option but the DYNAMO would most likely only re-sign him at a lower deal based on his salary last year which was in the neighborhood of $90,000.
Ianni is currently seeking out other MLS options.
Other DYNAMO options at center-back include CRAIG WAIBEL and GEOFF CAMERON but one senses that CAMERON is being developed to play in the DYNAMO midfield and will be most useful there.

SO depending on how everything shakes out the DYNAMO will need an outstanding ALL STAR type return from ROBINSON.

What do you think the DYNAMO will do at the center back position and will ROBINSON return to his ALL STAR form?

MANCHESTER UNITED was dominant and took it up another gear in the 2nd half to knock off CHELSEA yesterday. Continue with your thoughts today on the subject and we will carry it on to the radio show tonite. So was UNITED that dominant or was CHELSEA that bad? Or combination of both…….How about the move from ALEX FERGUSON putting RYAN GIGGS into center midfield instead of MICHAEL CARRICK. Brilliance!!!
Big Phil and CHELSEA is another story, clearly he has not got the stars of the team (FRANK LAMPARD, JOHN TERRY) in his corner? CHELSEA fans don’t hide…..the warning signs are there real clearly. Was the decision to hire FELIPE SCOLARI a disaster?

DAVID BECKHAM your favorite soccer player again defied the critics by starting under CARLO ANCELOTTI for AC MILAN yesterday and going almost the distance in a 2-2 draw with ROMA. Of course a young, hungry BRAZILIAN PATO stole the show and showed the old guard a thing or two. The kid was brilliant.
Your thoughts on BECKHAM and PATO……

Stunned to find ice on my windshield this morning in Houston, Texas.

Manchester United roll over listless Chelsea

manutdceleb412.jpg

ALEX FERGUSON and MANCHESTER UNITED crushed CHELSEA 3-0 in the most anticipated EPL match to this point in the season.
With out any doubt this was a game that the “RED DEVILS” dominated in every facet.

The first half stoppage time goal from NEMANJA VIDIC off a corner kick asked the questions of the strength of mentality of the “blues’ heading into the second half.

WAYNE ROONEY and DIMITAR BERBATOV scored second half goals and at times CHELSEA effort and lack of passion was clearly evident.
Manager FELIPE SCOLARI seems to have lost control of this team and JOSE MOURINHO ominously sat in the crowd to take this game in, probably pining for his next job as he has made it clear he wants back to ENGLAND.

RYAN GIGGS was placed into center midfield and providing an attacking cutting edge as ALEX FERGUSON found a way to get his legend in the first 11. PATRICE EVRA also remains such an integral part of the “RED DEVILS” and we were reminding of that in this game.

Abysmal defending from CHELSEA but lets not take anything away from this UNITED annihilation of the “Blues”.

Don’t be shy UNITED and CHELSEA fans, sound off……..Give me your take on this game?

*Reminder, DYNAMO ALL ACCESS WITH GLENN DAVIS tomorrow from 7-9pm on 790 The Sports Animal….Call in number 713-212-5790.

Whole world to watch Manchester United and Chelsea today!

chelsea.jpg

Asia, Europe, United States , South and Central American to the tip of Fiji. The whole world will be tuned in to catch this much anticipated match.

The posturing in the media is complete from both managers and this match has incredible and deep story-lines.

MANCHESTER UNITED is four points behind CHELSEA in 3rd place and with a win they would move to within one point of the “BLUES”. We all know the EPL is going to go down to the wire again and these three points are huge. You have to know LIVERPOOL manager RAFA BENITEZ and ARSENAL manager ARSENE WENGER might just be hoping for a draw at OLD TRAFFORD today………

Both squads are conceding less than a goal a game and scoring at a clip of over 2 per game. MANCHESTER UNITED has won 5 straight at home while CHELSEA has three wins and two draws in their last five on the road.
NICOLAS ANELKA leads CHELSEA with 14 goals while CRISTIANO RONALDO leads UNITED with 8.

“BIG” Phil Scolari the manager of CHELSEA continues to feel the pressure from CHELSEA fans yet reports say that the week in training for CHELSEA has been intense. Remember that JOHN TERRY and FRANK LAMPARD had questioning SCOLARI’s intentsity of their training sessions. TERRY will return today at center-back after a three match ban. MICHAEL BALLACK also returns and is available for CHELSEA.
One story line that continues with the BLUES is JOE COLE’s future and unhappiness of being subbed out of games regularly.

MANCHESTER UNITED will have PATRICE EVRA available and RIO FERDINAND back. Who plays right back could be a question ?
The CARLOS TEVEZ saga still hovers over the team and reports have UNITED interested in 21 year old Frenchman KARIM BENZEMA of LYON who caught ALEX FERGUSON’s attention in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.
Of course he is being mentioned to replace TEVEZ is he moves on.

WEIGH in after the game today with your thoughts on this classic that is being viewed WORLDWIDE!

EPL Fans speak out…Man U vs. Chelsea / Cameron returns home from national team camp

geoff.jpg

Both MANCHESTER UNITED and CHELSEA will get a boost tomorrow when they meet. MANCHESTER UNITED center-back RIO FERDINAND and CHELSEA center-back JOHN TERRY will return for a much anticipated match at OLD TRAFFORD. CHELSEA hold a four point lead over UNITED in the EPL table.

*GEOFF CAMERON sadly has returned home due to a hamstring injury from the U.S. National team camp.

*Dynamo All Access with Glenn Davis is this Monday night from 7-9 pm………Lots to talk about….Call in number is 713-212-5790 and the program can be caught on the internet at 790 The Sports Animal, HoustonDynamo.com or MLSNET.com

* The MLS combine is this week with the SEATTLE SOUNDERS holding the first pick. The Dynamo won’t be in action until the third and fourth round.

So what does your soccer weekend entail?
Watching games on the television? If so, which one’s? Coaching ? Involved with a son or daughter in the youth game? Referee? Or are you sitting it out this weekend?

Hugo wants Real Madrid job/ Galindo to Guadalajara/ Lalas speaks on Beckham

hugo.jpg

HUGO SANCHEZ gets the job at ALMEIRA in SPAIN and he already has begun to promote himself for the job at REAL MADRID. Meanwhile his new team was defeated 3-1 at home against MALLORCA in the COP DEL REY. MALLORCA have been no great shakes in fact winning for the first time in their last eight games.
The SANCHEZ name continues to gather HUGO coaching jobs.
I still never forget Mexican National team member PAVEL PARDO telling me how disruptive SANCHEZ was to the team when it was preparing for the 2006 World Cup under RICARDO LA VOLPE.

* AARON GALINDO heads to GUADALAJARA from EINTRACHT FRANKFURT in GERMANY. GALINDO appeared 32 times for the GERMAN club……

* Heard an amazing interview with English referee GRAHAM POLL where he says that players in the EPL believe ALEX FERGUSON of MANCHESTER UNITED has influence over referees and referee selection. He also goes on to mention that some referees for lack of a better word “suck up” to star players. I won’t name names but there were a few referee’s in MLS who DEFINETLY got caught up in the DAVID BECKHAM “jock sniffing” game since his arrival to MLS.

* Don’t forget the BIG games this weekend with MANCHESTER UNITED vs. CHELSEA and AC MILAN and ROMA on Sunday.

*Former LA GALAXY GM ALEXI LALAS believes DAVID BECKHAM could stay in ITALY. No earth shattering news here but he also goes on with these quotes……..
“Any manager to a certain extent, wants David Beckham on their team but I also think DAVID BECKHAM is not bigger than the GALAXY, nor is he bigger than Major League Soccer,” said Lalas.

“He’s back in his comfort zone at AC MILAN, playing with one of the biggest clubs in the world, with a tremendous amount of talent around him, with incredible money out there on the fireld so it must be, in a weird way for him , a relief to get out there.”

To be fair it is a difficult situation for BRUCE ARENA and the LA GALAXY with both DONOVAN and BECKHAM potentials to remain in Europe for more than 9 weeks on an extended deal. Beckham it seems has become a “novelty” and a “specialist”. Still not a bad thing having him available to come off the bench in the later stages of games to take free kicks.
He will be considered for this role for England.

*NEW YORK RED BULLS midfielder DANE RICHARDS is in town and formerly played at SAN JACINTO JR. COLLEGE.

*How great is it that the DYNAMO have four players in camp for the UNITED STATES NATIONAL TEAM. BRIAN CHING, RICARDO CLARK have been in many times before but the experience will certainly grow young talents STUART HOLDEN and GEOFF CAMERON.

*HDNET and MLS have not yet gotten together to determine if the network will be back. HDNET has begun to show up in more households based on a deal they struck with COMCAST.

What is the biggest HOUSTON DYNAMO priority? Back up goalkeeper, center back or an additional striker?

DeRosario with “heartfelt” address to the fans and Dynamo/ Ronaldo crashes Ferrarri

ferrari.jpg

DWAYNE DEROSARIO has not be heard publicly much lately due to his contract situation which has been reported.
Last night he made a statement that aired on DYNAMO ALL ACCESS with GLENN DAVIS.
To hear the DEROSARIO statement and interviews with DYNAMO MANAGER DOMINIC KINNEAR, EFRAIN FLORES of CHIVAS and SOCCER AMERICA writer RIDGE MAHONEY go to www.790thesportsanimal.com, click on podcasts, click on GLENN DAVIS.

*On another related note the Dynamo showed enought interest in JOAQUIN BOTERO of BOLIVAR that they put in a discovery option on the player but he has since signed with CORRECAMINOS in MEXICO as pointed out last night on the show by many DYNAMO fans. The search for a striker, defender and back-up goalkeeper continues.

*Yes, MANCHESTER UNITED lost to DERBY COUNTY 1-0 in the first leg of the CARLING CUP at DERBY. I am already getting emails from UNITED fans conditioning the loss and letting me know that things will be different in the 2nd league. IT JUST DOESN”T MATTER when it comes to what DERBY accomplished with the 1-0 win.
This is “historic” moment for the “RAMS” who knock off WAYNE ROONEY, CRISTIANO RONALDO and CARLOS TEVEZ and company. Not to mention what it must have meant to former UNITED goalkeeper ROY CARROLL in goal for DERBY COUNTY.
And on another sideline, how about NIGEL CLOUGH son of former NOTTINGHAM FOREST manager BRIAN CLOUGH as the manager of DERBY. An amazing story and an amazing win irregardless of what happens in the second leg.

UNITED will take on CHELSEA this SUNDAY at OLD TRAFFORD with a shot at moving one point closer to CHELSEA. After the loss to DERBY you can bet UNITED will respond with a good performance and effort at home. My predicition is MANCHESTER UNITED, what is yours?
And despite totaling his FERRARI, CRISTIANO RONALDO will be in the line-up. He came out unscathed from a car accident Thursday morning on his way to training. RONALDO hit a roadside barrier. Thankfully he is ok.

*Bear in mind the first hurdle has been cleared with County officials and the stadium. Stage two for OLIVER LUCK and the DYNAMO is to get part of the the stadium financed in tough economical times. Anyone with a loose 20 or 25 million lying around?

*DYNAMO fans are heading to CANCUN for Spring Break, I mean the DYNAMO match against FC CANCUN otherwise known as ATLANTE……Lets hope the DYNAMO can get a goal or two cushion in leg 1 at ROBERTSON come the end of FEBRUARY. And yes FEBRUARY will be a big month with the UNITED STATES taking on MEXICO on FEBRUARY in COLUMBUS, Ohio.

*PATRICK IANNI was on a salary of around 90,000 dollars and the DYNAMO still have the first right to re-sign him as he shops himself to other MLS teams.
Ianni was a member of the OLYMPIC squad . Would you want to re-sign him if BOBBY BOSWELL signs in TURKEY ?

Soccer on the radio tonite/ Dynamo show interest in Bolivian striker Botero

de_rosario_www.jpg

It seems the Dynamo have shown interest in former UNAM PUMAS striker and Bolivian international JOAQUIN BOTERO.
Sounds as though nothing definite here but BOTERO once was the top goal scorer in the world while at Bolivar in Bolivia with 49 goals and has been a member of the Bolivian national team since 1999 and recently participated in World Cup Qualifying for Bolivia. In October, he scored twice against PERU in a 3-1 win.
The 31 year old may be best known to Mexican Football League fans for his play at UNAM PUMAS from 2003 to 2006.
During the 2004 Apertura he had 11 goals in 19 games . The Dynamo have put a discovery claim on the player which means they have first shot at signing him amongst MLS teams.
Recently he has jumped around to different clubs which is a red flag including TACHIRA in VENEZUELA and currently at BOLIVAR now…..What are your thoughts?
Bobby Boswell it seems is close to signing in TURKEY….So what are the biggest needs for your “Orange”?
We discuss this and MORE tonite on 790TheSportsAnimal……

CHIVAS dump ATLAS in Interliga in front of strong crowd in FRISCO. It was the GUADALAJARA “DERBY” and CHIVAS came out on top but it wasn’t easy.
RAMON MORALES via a penalty kick put the “Goats” up 1-0 then BRUNO MARIONI tied it up for ATLAS fairly late. ATLAS then crushed a finish off the cross-bar that would have put them up.
CHIVAS responded through CARLOS OCHOA twice. OCHOA re-deemed himself with the two goals (79th, 84th) after tripping over the ball comically on a break-away earlier in the match.

GLENN DAVIS “MAN OF THE MATCH” : SERGIO AVILA of CHIVAS- Chivas coach EFRAIN FLORES brought him on at the perfect time in the 73rd minute to change the game. Avila set up OCHOA for his first goal after a beautiful , direction changing dribble through four ATLAS players and helped to secure the victory.
