* Ok, I am kind of just kidding here. THIERRY HENRY hit for a hat trick against VALENCIA this past weekend .
Now what is noteworthy here is that he was played as a striker as opposed to his recent time as a wide midfielder.
SAMUEL ETO’O also did not play so HENRY must have been enjoying his football closer to goal.
BARCA continues to roll and is the clear favorite in SPAIN as REAL MADRID continues to deal with problems including injury under German manager BERND SCHUSTER.
*The RED DEVILS and goalkeeper HERNAN CRISTANTE drew 0-0 at SANTOS on Thursday and yesterday produced a 2-1 win that will pit them in the MFL final against CRUZ AZUL. The win came in big fashion after going down a goal to EDGAR CASTILLO of SANTOS. The “CORONA” boys would get stunned by two consectuive goals from EDGAR DUENAS and HECTOR RAUL MANCILLA. Take your pick…will CRUZ AZUL disappoint? Or will they win? Are the RED DEVILS primed to take the title?
*UNC won the NCAA Division 1 Womens College Cup behind two goals from junior CASEY NOGUEIRA over NOTRE DAME. NOGUEIRA is the daughter of professional goalkeeper VICTOR NOGUEIRA who has spent many years playing indoor soccer in the U.S. Anson Dorrance wins his 19th title I believe.
SEATTLE PACIFIC won their first ever womens division 2 title defeating WEST FLORIDA 1-0 on a “golden goal” by JANAE GODOY. On the mens side CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS romped over DOWLING of New York 3-0 giving coach JOE FLANAGAN another title. DYNAMO KEI KAMARA played at CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS.
The division two games were played in TAMPA and seen in attendance were former TAMPA, DC UNITED, COLORADO and RSL goalkeeper SCOTT GARLICK. Former TAMPA BAY ROWDIE and US National team player PERRY VAN DER BECK (incidentally played against the old HOUSTON DYNAMOS here in Houston back in the mid 80’s with the US NAT Team, also at the TAMPA BAY MUTINY as an assistant coach when Dominic Kinnear was playing ).
CHICAGO FIRE assistant coach DARRYL SHORE also in attendance for the sem-finals.
The conditions were great, no local press with the TAMPA TIMES office literally a quarter of a mile away……
*The LANDON DONOVAN to BAYERN MUNICH theory has this recent addition to add to the mix from BAYERN GM ULI HOENESS who says that striker LUKAS PODOLSKI will not be
going anywhere during the transfer period in January. PODOLSKI, 23 has expressed a desire to move to MANCHESTER CITY or REAL MADRID. So does this effect the possible transfer of DONOVAN to BAYERN. Stay tuned.
*The NCAA MENS COLLEGE CUP will be held this weekend in FRISCO,TX at the Pizza Hut Park. Three ACC teams in the finals. UNC will take on the favorite WAKE FOREST while ST. JOHN’s and DAVE MASUR challenge MARYLAND.
What a great group of college coaches in JAY VIDOVICH, DAVE MASUR, SASHA CIROVSKI and ELMAR BOLOWICH. All have done remarkably good work at their University’s.
Growing up in NEW JERSEY with DAVE MASUR I never would have depicted him as a coach down the road but he has done a remarkable job at a school in JAMAICA, QUEENS NEW YORK that is not the easiest place to recruit to.
Now what is ironic about this is that the state of Texas only has two NCAA division one soccer programs…SMU and Houston Baptist University. This lack of attention to mens soccer is appalling from UT, TEXAS AM, UH and on.
