As I watched CRUZ AZUL come back and score three goals against UNAM PUMAS to advance to the Mexican League semi-finals I began to think that this could be the year of the “blue machine”.
GERARDO TORRADO, MIGUEL SABAH , and CESAR VILLALUZ did the damage.
Especially important was the quick response to PACO PALENCIA’s goal for PUMAS that was produced by TORRADO.
Any momentum that PUMAS expected to get from the spectacular Palencia goal was quickly de-railed.
CRUZ AZUL will take on ATLANTE tomorrow night at 9 central time on Telemundo . CRUZ AZUL was knocked out of the 2007 Apertura semi-finals by ATLANTE so they will be looking to exact some revenge.
Thursday TOLUCA and SANTOS will go at it and once again CUAUHTEMOC BLANCO is becoming the story .
It is a bit bizarre that he has signed this short-term contract to play in the playoffs for SANTOS.
His impact has been involvement in four of their five goals against SAN LUIS to win on aggregate 5-2.
SAN LUIS led the league during the regular season but failed in the quarter-finals.
Makes you appreciate the COLUMBUS CREW MLS CUP title.
My prediction is a CRUZ AZUL/SANTOS final what is yours?
Last night the DYNAMO ACADEMY team welcomed two players on trial.
Flying all the way from CHINA for a look was LONG TAN and EL SALVADOR youth national team player ANDREAS ALEXANDER FLORES MEJIA were in attendance. MEJIA was recommended by El Salvador national team coach CARLOS de los COBOS.
*The DYNAMO will open up their 2009 season against the Columbus Crew at home on March 21 at 7pm from Robertson Stadium. For ticket information go to HoustonDynamo.com
Meanwhile head coach DOMINIC KINNEAR has been on the road scouting at the ACC Championships, NCAA playoffs and now heading down to Jamaica to the DIGICEL CUP.
Team President Oliver Luck is urging Dynamo fans to stay pro-active on elected officials.
“The thing Dynamo fans can do is let elected officials know this is important to people. They expect the city and county to work with us to get this thing done.”

Yes, the Cementarios looked awfully good the other night in D.F. I would have hoped Pumas could have held in there on their turf, but it was not to be.
I expect Cruz Azul to get the job done.
Interesting couple of invites to the academy. Could you imagine the impact a player like Mejia could have on the fan base if he works out? I suspect a lot of those wearing blue last wednesday (who don’t otherwise wear orange already when the opponent isn’t LAF) might find themselves joining the ranks of el mundo naranja.

Glenn,
If the two newest members of the Dynamo Youth Academy need a school to attend, let me know. I am pretty sure I can get them enrolled at my school and on my varsity team pretty easily!

Always the recruiter H……Eric, following all leads in MLS is important to find on occasion a loose diamond. Salvadoreans are big Dynamo fans but a player that is good enough that can stir up a certain element of the fan base can never hurt.

MLF: Santos Laguna vs. Cruz Azul. Santos wins.

I am afraid that with the quick turn arounds (3 days) teams with less depth will be hurt (Atlante and Toluca). It also should hinder the older players like Blanco. As I’ve said before, Cruz Azul’s depth will help them to the gran final, but I’m so used to them being a bridesmaid I can’t expect them to get it done this time.
