It wasn’t artistic but it was a huge result buoyed from many young players that were in the biggest game of their lives.
The 1-1 draw in San Salvador, El Salvador leaves the Dynamo with one game to go at home in Concacaf Champions Cup and the chance to advance.
Stuart Holden got the games lone goal for the Dynamo while Firpo countered in the second half.
Sure it was choppy, sure they could have managed the game better but consider the effort of these younger players in getting the “mission accomplished” which was to draw or win to set the squad up at home on November 26 to advance in the CCC. If you can’t beat Firpo at home then you don’t deserve to advance.

CAIG!!!!!
Why is he still with the team? Why? Oh why? Oh why?
Job well done by the “Kids”. A little to defensive toward the end allowing Firpo to escalate the pressure and get the goal, but you could tell that all the effort had our players fatigued. Should be a good match next month for all the marbles. I personally rank this as one of my memorable matches for the franchise based on what was on the line and who we had playing in the game.
“Holden” serve in El Salvador! Now we can focus entirely on MLS and back-burner Champions League until after the playoffs. Job well done to John Spencer and the lads!
One Thing to take away from this match for us fans is that the future is bright. Dom and John have some real quality on the bench that they haven’t had to tap into yet. Proof again that The coaches have instilled work ethic and an attitude second to none in MLS – all the way from the top guys down to the last guy on the depth chart. I liked what I saw in the back with Ustruck and Chabala, Hayden was like the enegizer bunny in midfield, great effort and very physical. It is fun to watch the future Dynamo stars play in games that matter. Its great to be able to give Barret, Boswell, Mulrooney, and Robinson rest. Ususally its the midfielders and forwards that get a break.
WE had it and it slipped away. Hey Tony, how about taking charge of the 6 yard box. It was put there for your protection. In fact it’s your beach, your waves inside that area. I have seen keepers routinely get away with crimes in that area, that we execute people for in Texas. I know how difficult it can be to control that space, in fact I am working with a keeper right now concerning field generalship and area control. The difference is, SHE’S 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try this, focus on the ball the way you do your dinner plate. Reach out and grab the ball like it’s a Sheppards pie(English reference that you should be able to identify with Tony, fajita for the rest of us). And then hold onto it like it’s your last Dynamo pay check, hint, hint. And no Glenn, I’m not being to hard on him.
Well said Larry.
Also well said Kirk. These guys could have lost and used one-day of rest, a division one opponent, or even travel as an excuse and they would have had little argument under the circumstances. Instead, they sacked up two days after their title match and did the business. A win would have been gravy but stakes and squad considered, this could be a transformational watershed type of match for the kids at a time when our first team isn’t getting any younger. A reserve title followed by a performance like this sends a message up the MLS chain that we’ve got quality on the Dynamo horizon. It might create a little friendly competition within the club and light a fire under the veterans knowing that the reserves are now capable of taking points abroad.
The win would have been nice, but we’re still alive. It was all going to boil down to the game on the 26th anyway, so let’s go out and win it.
I turned the game on just as the captain’s (Holden) were meeting at mid-field and I knew it was going to be a young team, but WOW! I was not surprised at the effort, but was somewhat at the difficulty it gave Firpo. The young guys obviously took them out of their game for a time with their hustle. I was impressed with Chabala this time out. His passes were hitting the mark and he was tackling effectively. Kamara was really asserting himself up front and I have long been impressed by Cameron & Holden. Well done on short rest.
Chabala did look good, to bad about the goal, but that happens, never should have gotten to that point.
Remember This game Chabala was playing on his left (his natural position) not on the right serving in balls with his weak foot. He has a bright future!

Sorry for the double-post…just found this topic…

I am no fan of Caig…but this one can’t be blamed on anyone on the field…
We lacked leadership on the sidelines, plain and simple…Im sure John Spencer is a good coach, but he did not manage his squad and the timings right.
I was dissapointed when at the 75th minute we hadn’t made a sub yet…that’s about the point when our team started looking tired and bringing in someone should have broken up a little momentum and obviously sent some messages on the field…
When you’re making a sub you’re actually sending two messages, one to the opposing team, letting them know that you still have cards to play and another one to your team letting them know that you’ve got their back if they need help…
These guys had just played on Sunday and the first sub came in on the 93rd minute…
What’s the point of having subs if you’re not going to use them…
The guys are young and obviously wanted the win but right about the 82nd or 83rd minute there were a few plays that should have been talked about before the game…(if we are up by this instance, then we do this…) Players kept going up and making meaningless crosses to empty spaces and wasting energy against 3 or 4 Firpo players… when they could’ve easily kept posession…
We surely lack that “colmillo” (fang) in MLS…and it isn’t cheating but rather managing your game…
I hope Im not being too critical…the result is Very Good.. don’t get me wrong, but after seeing how good the guys were playing, I knew they could dominate the whole game… our coach didn’t give us that chance on this particular night…
Hopefully this is taken as constructive criticism…since I know this team and it’s staff is one of the best, if not the best in MLS…
