Zidane to apologize and more at the Davis Daily

* Well that is what they say anyway. Apparently in an upcoming book called “THE HIDDEN FACE OF ZIDANE” the legendary French national team player will produce a form of an apology where he admits it was a horrible mistake when he head-butted Italian defender MARCO MATERAZZI in the 2006 WORLD CUP FINAL.
Only moments earlier Zidane had nearly put the French up with a header which may have propelled them on to victory and place him alongside PELE and MARADONA as the greatest players in the game.

*Zidane’s former REAL MADRID teammmate David Beckham got some scary news recently when LA police beefed up his family’s security after being alerted he is one of a list of LA celebs whose children have been targeted by kidnappers. Beckham and his family have lived through these problems before in England. In fact he once stared an intruder down through his window while home alone in England.

*Beckham’s former team MANCHESTER UNITED are off to a slow start and have a huge game this Sunday when they take on EPL leaders CHELSEA and FELIPE SCOLARI. This is must see tv.

*DYNAMO head coach Dominic Kinnear and players will work the FEMA POD at UH today. After postponement of the San Jose game on Saturday the team is next up in Panama against SAN FRANCISCO FC this Tuesday in Concacaf Champions League play. The following Saturday the team heads to the artficial turf of BMO Stadium to take on Toronto.
So back to the postponement of the game, if this were the Astros or Texans would they have postponed this game on Saturday or would it have been a moment for the city to heal after the Hurricane? Would it have been a morale booster. I can tell you through my responses , fans wanted to attend this game. Yet if personal safety truly is the issue then the smartest of decisons was made by the City. So would you have attended? Is the Hurricane too fresh for sporting events? What happened to getting back to normal as soon as possible or is the area still not secure enough?
You tell me…..

Have your say…….

This blog is an open forum today so have your say on anything………..
I start it off by sending my prayers and wishes to those in real need during Hurricane Ike…my second comment is that the Dynamo/San Jose game will provide a level of normalcy for fans as they get back to the stadium to support the “Orange”. Maybe a needed mental break from the Hurricane is needed and the Dynamo could provide that opportunity beautifully, no to mention the “edge” that last Saturday’s game carried which most did not see………..If you didn’t see it you missed a very emotionally charged BRIAN CHING and DOMINIC KINNEAR after he scored the tying goal……..The floor is yours soccer fan…..

Dynamo tie San Jose/ Houston MLS players make news

The Dynamo got a 1-1 draw in a physical match against San Jose that had a real EDGE.
Nothing wrong with seeing some rivalry and some passion down the stretch in MLS.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
I love this from Dynamo striker BRIAN CHING who after scoring reminded SAN JOSE fans of the two titles that Dynamo players helped win by pointing to the stars on his jersey.
“There were some fans disrespecting (coach) Dom (Kinnear) and our team, and I just wanted to remind them that we were the ones who put two stars on their teams jersey and were the ones who won four championships, and they should show some respect.”

MEANWHILE IN KANSAS CITY………..The Wizard got a lifeline temporarily with a 2-0 home win over the LA GALAXY and DAVID BECKHAM……Two goals in between the 67th and 69th minute was the difference. Now the game was not great, very direct on the tight ARROWHEAD STADIUM field, ugly at times and with neither team able to pentrate out wide. LA manager BRUCE ARENA tried to play DAVID BECKHAM in the middle which didn’t work out and then reverted to playing him out wide after they went down 2-0.
Little passion from the Galaxy and sadly they just can’t get it right and could be out of the playoffs for the third straight year.
Now the two goals were the highlight of the day…..67th minute HERCULEZ GOMEZ gets in the cross and JOSH WOLFF who was hitting the near post flicked it in off his heel. His finish hit the far side netting ……GOAL NUMBER TWO was out of the “are you kidding me” file. DAVEY ARNAUD from NEDERLAND whose family and in-laws were evacuated from the Beaumont Area ….smashed in a 35 yard bomb…..stunning and should be goal of the week.
Curt Onalfo of KC gets the win over his former boss Arena where he was a national team assistant.

RED CARD: Poor Beckham turn-out in KC and football fields with lines marred a huge Wizards win.

GOLD BALL: Houston area players DAVEY ARNAUD and ARTURO ALVAREZ come up with key plays in games.
Alvarez got the assist on the RONNIE O’BRIEN goal against the DYNAMO.

HOPING YOU ARE SAFE AFTER HURRICANE IKE!

Drink bottled water/ Tap water must be boiled for one minute

Passing on the word here. Drink bottled water and make sure that if you have to drink tap water it is boiled for a minute as per Mayor Bill White.
God speed to all.

Donovan to Bayern Munich……

landon-donovan.jpg

According to Steven Goff of the Washington Post there is speculation about Landon Donovan potetentially going to BAYERN MUNICH in Germany.
The main thing to consider here is that BAYERN manager JURGEN KLINSMANN worked as consultant to the LA GALAXY and became very familiar with DONOVAN. KLINSMANN also has a home in California and is married to an American. One of his assistants is former CHIVAS USA assistant Martin Vazquez.
Personally, I would love to see DONOVAN take a crack at the BUNDESLIGA fully committed of course.
In the right environment , with the right mentality and put in a tactical set-up to play to his strength I could see Donovan being successful in Germany. What do you think?

On another note please stay safe during Hurricane Ike…….Glenn

United States eases past T&T while Mexico beats Canada in WCup Qualifying

us-in-chicago.jpg

So time to weigh in on the U.S. victory of T&T. The Soca Warriors were anything but. In fact they looked down-right scared and in fear. The only time they seemed to los their fear was when they were down 2-0 naturally.
Tough game to gauge where the U.S. is at based on the opponent. It was far too easy .

T&T certainly didn’t have the defend deep and counter tactics down in this one under former Colombia coach Francisco Maturana.
Goals from Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey and Brian Ching sealed the fate of T&T.
Ricardo Clark of the Dynamo also got a run in midfield in the second half……Nine points in three games is the maximum.
So what is your state of the U.S. national team and which individual players are you most impressed with.

Big day for MEXICO and a bad day for CANADA who are now in World Cup qualifying trouble. Don’t forget that Dwayne DeRosario and others have consistently come down on the Canadien Soccer Federation for their amateur ways.
A 2-1 loss in Mexico puts them in grave danger on a night that Cuauhtemoc Blanco played his final game for the “TRICOLORE’.
Blanco obviously not in the plans of SVEN. Mexican players and fans alike honored Blanco for his national team career.
The future of Mexico is Andres Guardado, Omar Bravo, Gio Do Santos and possibly Nery Castillo………..Of course where in the world is NERY? I get a bad feeling with Castillo and his agent……just do..

More international soccer for the Dynamo around the corner

firpo.gif

So here is the X factor in the historic run for the DYNAMO to try a win an unprecedented third MLS Cup.
It’s called the CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP and it has it’s own level of importance beyond reminding us that MLS needs to expand the salary cap and improve the overall quality of rosters in MLS in order to compete in international competition.
Not just ENTER but to truly COMPETE….I have no doubt that MLS clubs would win these tournaments with some additional cap space and the ability to strengthen the depth of rosters.
Ok so now here is the Dynamo Concacaf Champions Cup schedule with home games in capital letters:

9/17 HOME Luis Angel Firpo, EL Salvador 9pm
9/23/ away San Francisco FC , Panama
9/30 away at UNAM Pumas
10/7 HOME vs. San Francisco FC Panama 9pm
10/22 HOME vs. PUMAS (MEX) 9pm
10/28 away Luis Angel Firpo, El Salvador
