Bring on Pachuca in Superliga/ Soccer on the radio tonite at 7pm

Filed under: Uncategorized — glenndavis @ 7:09 am

As fate would have it the Dynamo will take on Pachuca in the semi-finals of the SUPERLIGA at Robertson Stadium on July 29th.
These two clubs have produced fantastic games over their short history going back to their initial meeting when the Dynamo defeated them 2-0 at Robertson Stadium in Concacaf play.
What about last year’s semi-final at Robertson Stadium that went to penalty kicks……..remember Joseoph Ngwenya trying to chip “Tuzos” goalkeeper Miguel Calero?
Pachuca has changed personel some over the last two years but the heart and soul of the team is still players like GABRIEL CABALLERO, CHRISTIAN GIMENEZ, DAMIAN ALVAREZ and the “pirate” CALERO. Add to this mix now BRUNO MARIONI up front and they are formidable….fans are in for a a treat as this rivalry continues to grow in stature between the DYNAMO and PACHUCA……The DYNAMO are at DC tomorrow night in league play before taking on PACHUCA…

  1. Will the teams be playing in slop again?

    Comment by Jeff — July 21, 2008 @ 8:17 am

  2. Adding to Jeff’s comment, I am really upset at what happened during group stage here at Robertson…our field looked horrible, and I know lots of people already complained about this and someone probably let UofH officials know that the conditions were horrible. But this goes beyond that.

MLS as a league, Superliga, the elimination of Chivas, and the unfortunate injury of Luis Michel’s fractured forearm are all being blamed on “deplorable field conditions during the Superliga tournament”.

I’ve been reading some notes on Televisa Deportes, ESPN, Univision.com, and other places, while also watching Futbol Picante, which is the version of our “American Soccer” on GolTV, and some other shows, where everyone’s using this excuse. Every 5 minutes, everytime the get a chance, “The Superliga fields were in horrible condition”

They’re right, the field at Robertson was horrible, but enough with the complaining…ALL THE OTHER FIELD WERE PERFECTLY FINE. Chivas was not eliminated at Robertson, Michel didn’t get hurt there, Santos didn’t play there, what’s their excuse…

All I know is Houston has a horrible reputation now in the eyes of the American (continent) world of soccer, and all thanks to whoever dropped the ball at UofH.

This is another reason why we need our own stadium (MR.White…)…I hate the fact that Houston as a city is being seen as a dump because of the field that was on National TV and all over cable on highlights…

And about the conspiracy theories from Oswaldo Sanchez, Read here (Spanish)

    http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=701825&page=story

Other conspiracy theories formulated where that Chivas didn’t know the tiebreaker information until halftime of their last game, otherwise they would’ve had a different line-up for the game. - Vergara

Televisa Deportes and some on ESPN claim that there was an “agreement” between Mexican clubs so that Atlante would go on to the next round…by “agreement” I bet they mean they didn’t understand the tiebreaker rules…I offered to explain it to them in a post but they never posted my comment…they didn’t want to be wrong…and they’re wrong for confusing a whole nation with their beliefs and theories…this has happened many times in Mexican soccer history, the TV companies manage what’s said on their shows even if it’s not true…

  3. This Dynamo-Pachuca rivalry is getting good. This is exactly the kind of thing tournament organizers had to be hoping for in setting it up. Houston fans have gotten the short end of the stick thus far, but guarantee that Pachuca has plenty of respect for our men in Orange. I absolutely can’t wait for this match.

  4. Have been waiting for this since our ousting last year (still have nightmares about Ngwenya trying to be cheeky with that penalty). Should be a classic as always between these two teams.

Mexican clubs will always have lame excuses when they lose to U.S. clubs it is no different in national team matches, in fact i find it funny that when we win for the national team it is well mexico dominated possesion and were the better team. When the Dynamo lost to Chivas we dominated possesion and were the better team and what was there response a win is a win. Don’t know what it will take to gain some respect in their fans eyes, i can see the players having more and more respect for american national team and clubs. Maybe one day.

Lets go boys, make it an all MLS final. Glen will you still have your show on Mon. while the olypics are going or will you have a replacement?

  5. I would LOVE to see us rip Pachuca. Everyone but our two young Olympians should be ready and with the exception of Ngwenya, this should seem “just like OLD Times”(sorry Nate) the way we are finally playing. BTW, wonder who the revolution will be rooting for? I just can’t see them rooting for us but would understand their not wanting to play us in another championship game! I’m expecting a field that looks better than Buck Shaw stadium from Robertson next Tuesday. LOL

  6. Atmosphere at Robertson Stadium vs CHIVAS was through the roof!

WHY DOES AM 610 or AM 790 NEVER REPORT THE DYNAMO SCORES THE NEXT DAY AT THE TICKER BREAKS! MLB scores, NFL pre-season moves, NFL summer game scores… yet the reports can\’t get themselves to mention Dynamo 0 Chivas 1 with 28,000 fans watching!!! Dynamo 4 - Atlante 0. WOULD IT KILL THE SPORTS REPORTERS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE BEST TEAM HOUSTON HAS GOING???? Maybe, must maybe even more fans would show up to experience the FANTASTIC Atmosphere!

Face it… at MLB, NBA even the NFL games the fans need coaxing via chants of \

  7. Face it… at MLB, NBA even the NFL games the fans need coaxing via chants of “DE-FENSE” through the loud speakers, artificial fan noise channeled through the speakers… just to get the fans up off their butts! STINKS OF FAKE EXCITEMENT! DYNAMO GAMES ROCK! THE FANS ROCK! THE ATMOSPHERE ROCKS! ALL NATURAL. ALL GENUINE BABY!

YES THE SPORTS BEAT REPORTERS INSIST ON KEEPING THE BEST THING GOING A SECRET. FINE! BETTER SEATS FOR THE REST OF US!

BTW, Stuart Holden’s 2nd half goal vs DC was AMAZING!

  8. I disagree with the comments about DeRosario losing his cool on the field. He was UPHOLDING the code — the “no dives in our stadium” code.

Anyone have video of the absolutely shameful dive by Marcelo Saragosa of FC Dallas in the second half a few games ago.?

ESPN nor MLS showed it in their highlight reels of the game.

After being called for a foul on Dwayne De Rosario, Saragosa gets hit by a bad case of the invisible sniper, falling to the ground before players from both teams guilt him into getting up.

CLASSIC DE ROSARIO MOMENT HITS THE EDITING ROOM FLOOR?

I was at the game. The best part was Dwayne De Rosario picking up Saragosa off the ground by his shirt and chewing him out for taking a dive! That’s CLASSIC Dwayne De Rosario moment!

That is NOT UNSPORTMANSHIP Glenn. Give DeRo a break!

    Anyone have the video clip?

  9. Glenn… did you say Franco Carachio is GONE?

He was a BIG FAN FAVORITE! What happened?

    Comment by Art — July 21, 2008 @ 8:42 pm

  10. Dug a little.

    —-
Houston Dynamo has waived young forward Franco Caraccio today. The young striker floundered with the Dynamo, managing two goals and an assist in 10 games for Houston.
    —-

During warm ups he sure seemed to get along with the team. 10 games enough to evaluate a 21 year old fan favorite?

    Comment by Art — July 21, 2008 @ 9:10 pm

  11. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5895343.html

“Caraccio, who was to make $130,500 this year, according to MLS Players Union documents, was signed to a semi-guaranteed contract, the team said, meaning his release effectively opens up salary cap space for the Dynamo.”
