The NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION continue their SUPERLIGA success with a 1-0 win over PACHUCA on a stoppage time penalty kick from KHANO SMITH….The Revolution have now advanced to the semi-finals along with CHIVAS…..they also defeated PACHUCA. They have done this without TAYLOR TWELLMAN and one has to think that STEVE NICOL’s international experience as a player is playing into this success…..More good news came in the form of CHIVAS USA defeating defending MEXICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Santos 1-0 as ANTE RAZOV again living up to the moment…..CHIVAS USA like the DYNAMO remains a possibility to advance and will take on NE next….CHIVAS USA got this win without a number of key players including Swiss International RALPH WICKY, Cuban striker MAYKEL GALINDO, starting defender LAWSON VAUGHAN, ALEX ZOTINCA and JUSTIN BRAUN who has been starting of late…all things considered these are very positive results…….
I don’t know who was winding me up but someone called the radio station Monday and left a message about STUART HOLDEN playing in EUROPE. At first I shrugged it off but lets face it ….it is a great possible as he holds a dual citzenship. He also has played in England with the Sunderland reserves in the past….players are ambitious and I am sure the DYNAMO are preparing for one day players like HOLDEN and CLARK to be tapped up. Nothing really new here but it again reminds everyone that rosters and the salary cap need to be expanded in MLS……
The OLYMPICS are a great platform to make a statement to European clubs and agents and those that are there know it.

I was going to email about Stu as well…While I was searching AM waves for 790 I stopped at a Spanish station which apparently has a Dynamo radio show at 7pm as well…the show was about to be over and I heard the broadcasters talk about Holden going to the Premier League…apparently they said, it’s a “done deal”…I don’t know what that meant..I’d hate to see a young talented player go but we do need to prepare for this…every player wants a bigger challenge and a bigger check…makes sense…

Glenn, without question the league has to raise the ante if it expects to be competitive. Holden is a fine young talent with a wonderful career in front of him. If the Dynamo want to keep him, they need to raise the cash and make him an offer he can’t refuse. Lock him up for several years. I know that may not be possible, seeing how contracts are broken all the time in this sport. This is something I expect Dom and management are aware of. Somehow they need to find a way to keep their players if they want to be competitive for years to come. They have to lock in their talent. No longer can you associate a player with a team, those days are long gone. Everyone follows the money trail and really can you blame them. A new stadium will help tremendously, it will provide better income to buy and keep players, better field to play on and be an incentitive for new players to come to Houston.
I love to watch Holden play, he is so fluid and graceful and can only get better. If he leaves, I will understand but I won’t be happy. I suspect there are many other who will feel like I do. Let’s keep our young players and build for the future.
