Hyndman not afraid of MLS challenge

FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman’s commute to work is a little longer these days.

After 24 years heading a successful men’s soccer program at SMU, Hyndman can no longer walk three blocks from his house to the college campus.

Accepting the FC Dallas job was not an easy task. For Hyndman, it was emotional.

So emotional, he headed to the recently concluded European Championship with his wife, Kami, and daughter Tamara to think it through.

He had to get away from it all to find clarity.

Citing the challenge and “comfort” level at SMU, Hyndman opted for the chance to take FC Dallas to another level.

“I think it’s great that a college coach is going to MLS,” Hyndman said. “I’m hoping this opportunity is a great opportunity for college coaches around the country.

“In college I had it figured out. I could have done it with one eye closed and one arm tied behind my back. Now, I am on my toes every day.”

Hyndman has left the world of college soccer, where young men are mentored and told to take their studies seriously and where talks with guidance counselors might be almost as time consuming as practices. And that is not to mention …..for more on this article check out chron.com
