REIS: ” All they wanted to do was come here and fight us”

Filed under: Uncategorized — glenndavis @ 1:53 pm

So another Superliga game has come and gone and what we again witness is a disturbing trend. More post game fights and groups of players sourrounding referees. Generally it has been the losing team creating this poor display…..Nothing was different last night and I am sure fans all around the country knew the predictable by watching the game that ATLANTE would embarrass themselves with poor behavior after this one…..Staff members throwing punches……please. Will this staff member be released or fired by the organization?
Hear is what Matt Reis NE goalkeeper had to say:

“You see it all the time. I’m sure if you went back and looked at the tape of every game that one of the teams from Mexico lost in Superliga they’re all screaming and yelling at the referee. They have people from their staff coming on taking shots at people.
The referee doesn’t call the game and we get guys bladed. So in the end we are not happy with the way things went down but we played a good game. All they wanted to do was come here and fight us.”

So how to respond?….Sportmanship and losing with dignity is a part of confident soccer clubs. For the clubs involved I wonder if there is any internal policy to discipline the players. Would they be disciplined if this were a Mexican league game? Just as U.S. teams must represent properly in foreign countries I suppose it is the same for those that play in the states. The Superliga2008 website failed to show any of this on their website and it seems to me they are pushing this dirt under the carpet. It is a problem and it will turn fans off…or will it?…….This tournament has alot of serious issues to look at in the future if it truly wants to improve and survive. If you remember Atlante behavior wasn’t particularly good in their 4-0 loss to the Dynamo……….Emotional control is a must…….I found it terribly embarrassing……

It’s an All MLS Final: Dynamo vs. NE for the Superliga title

SHALRIE JOSEOPH and the NE REVOLUTION knocked off ATLANTE 1-0 last night to advance to the SUPERLIGA final against the DYNAMO. The game will be played on Tuesday in NE and can’t be the dream final that organizers and Telefutura may have imagined…..Sure fans in Houston wanted Atlante a second time and a home game at Robertson Stadium……..I myself am still shifting through the SUPERLIGA and it’s challenges for the future……..for right now all should revel in the shot at winning the title and bringing and international tournament victory to Houston……The DYNAMO/REVOLUTION rivalry continues…………

*Statement comes out of Dallas that Ken Cooper Jr. is not going anywhere according to GM Michael Hitchcock…what will happen to Juan Toya? By the way, he did not deserve his All Star inclusion…..

*Arturo Alvarez is now headed to San Jose and a return with Frank Yallop….

*DYNAMO SOCCER REPORT this Friday night at 9:30 pm on channel 55…….you won’t want to miss the post game interview with Dominic Kinnear and Nate Jacqua…

Historic Win: Dynamo knock off Pachuca in Superliga win!

It was a highly anticipated match last night at Robertson Stadium between the DYNAMO and PACHUCA. In their short history the two teams have put together some extremely entertaining games.
Last night the DYNAMO behind second half goals from BOBBY BOSWELL and CORY ASHE knocked off the defending champions 2-0. The 17,000 fans that were in attendance were treated to a night of passionate soccer and the environment at Robertson was great to be a part of. Here are my thoughts:

*Dynamo clearly were the better team in the first half and created the better chances. They had the better of the ball possession yet when advancing into good crossing positions were consistently let down by poor delivery from wide areas.

*PACHUCA came out and owned the opening 15 or so minutes in the second half and produced some great combinations and got the short end of a refereeing decision when Gabriel apparently scored. The goal was called back for offside…..but clearly looking at replay when I was calling the game Caballero was onside……the goal should have stood.
At this stage Pachuca was getting the better of the Dynamo.

*DOMINIC KINNEAR pulled off a great coaching move pushing GEOFF CAMERON into midfield and bringing on CORY ASHE and KEI KAMARA. The additional man in midfield plus the freshness of Ashe and Kamara helped the Dynamo regain control of the game…..a volume of corners on the night finally paid off when Craig Waibel re-directed a DeRosario corner and Pachuca lost BOSWELL at the back post for the 1-0 lead. TUZOS losing their legs at this stage and the fight.

*BRIAN MULLAN on the second DYNAMO goal looked like the MULLAN of old out wide. Getting past a PACHUCA defender and delivering a great cross to the far post that ASHE met off his head for the two goal win.
Two goals from players that just 5 and 2 years ago were playing collegiately.
The DYNAMO were clearly the better team on this evening and deserved the win………..So the Dynamo are only one game away from potentially winning an international tournament for the first time. My prediction is that NE will oust ATLANTE and the final will be played in NE……….My preference would be for an ATLANTE win and the final back in Houston like most of you feel I assume.

*PACHUCA missed Chaco GIMENEZ in a big way……DAMIAN ALVAREZ is brilliant, get him to MLS. DOMINIC KINNEAR was extremely passionate and emotional after the win as I interviewed him. Catch it this FRIDAY night at 9:30 on Channel 55 during the DYNAMO SOCCER REPORT with GLENN DAVIS. Thanks to all the fans who have been watching both the radio and tv show. Your input is important.

* THE BAD……..The field conditions throughout this tournament have been poor. They could alter Mexican teams and their desire to participate in this tournament. If you want to have a credible tournament the last thing that can be in poor condition are fields. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE…..AND MLS NEEDS THIS TOURNAMENT AND THE MEXICAN CLUBS TO HELP GROW THE LEAGUE ……Take away Superliga and you go back to some CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GAMES and “FRIENDLIES”.
The poor fields also provide a built in excuse for clubs and is an extremely poor projection on television. These field conditions also do not take the players into consideration nor the type of soccer that can be played in order to grow the sport…….Mind boggling and it makes soccer in the states look amateurish.

Don’t for one minute believe that these games don’t mean anything to MEXICAN squads….results will be conditioned by fans of both MLS and Mexican teams….and that is ok.

THANKS to all the fans that stopped by to talk soccer last night! It is great to see this sport mean so much to so many people.

SuperLiga semifinal a can’t-miss for fans

Rivalries are built through time and encounter.

These matches bring the best and worst out of players and can be emotional cauldrons.

If you are a lucky athlete, your competitive career might include a few. For the Dynamo, their first international rivalry was born on March 15, 2007. The rival, Pachuca, one of the most successful Mexican club teams in recent times.

On that evening Pachuca and their manager, Enrique Meza, underestimated their opponent. Pachuca passed the ball with confidence in the first half, making the Dynamo chase the game yet never took advantage of possession . At times the Tuzos even seemed arrogant that the goal would come easily.

What they didn’t know was that the Dynamo’s strength of character would not allow them to fold.

Tonight will be different.

Pachuca now has a healthy respect for the Dynamo and the soccer that is being played in MLS. The teams’ rivalry includes epic games played in both Mexico and at Robertson Stadium.

The level of respect the two teams have for each other coupled with nationalistic pride make tonight’s SuperLiga semifinal a “can’t miss” for sports fans. Finality will also be an issue, for one of the teams who will be eliminated from Superliga.

So how can the Dynamo pull off a historic result?

Lots of variables play into tonight’s match but here are a few to consider if the Dynamo are step closer to winning their first international tournament.

• Keep the ball — Having the ball solves alot of problems. Intelligent passing , movement and use of the ball is a must.

• Control midfield — The Dynamo need to control the vital middle of the field and not allow their opponent to find a passing rhythm. The play of Ricardo Clark along with the rest of the Dynamo midfield has to be balanced and poised to destruct Pachuca’s lifeline of play.

The Tuzos are loaded in midfield with stars like Gabriel Caballero, Damian Alvarez and Christian “Chaco” Gimenez. The trio have played well over 700 games producing boat-loads of goals. Their savvy and cunning rank with the best of them and with their….for more on this story go to Chron.com

These are pictures recently taken at Robertson Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston. Do you think this shows well for MLS, and how does this look for the University of Houston?

All Star match good for the game/ Dynamo Soccer Report tonite/ Mcbride to Chi-town

*Only saw highlights of yesterday’s All Star game but it sure looked good in Toronto. The concept of playing a foreign team is a good one because it elicits effort and seriousness out of MLS players. That desire to prove is what is growing this league.
Got a handful of emails saying the TORONTO fans booed the U.S. National Anthem…….did this happen?

*DWAYNE DEROSARIO drew a penalty kick and then converted the ensuing spot chance hitting it off the underside of the cross-bar. DeRosario in a deep position up front reminds us that he has been the best compliment to Brian Ching. KEI KAMARA is now a Dynamo. He has not been a consistent goal scorer in MLS by any means but has some athletic qualities and can move……Will the Dynamo environment take him to a higher ground?

*DYNAMO SOCCER REPORT with GLENN DAVIS is tonite on CHANNEL 55 at 9:30pm. All star game highlights, a look back at the Dynamo/Pachuca rivalry, the best of MLS highlights up to this point in the season plus we here from you the fan.
Soccer fans go to Houston’s55.com, click on the Dynamo Soccer Report and send us an email of what you would like covered on the show. If you have a good community based idea or piece either youth or adult oriented let me know. We aim to cover our game locally as well. gdavis98@swbell.net

*We all kind of new this would happen and I am sure that MLS got involved to broker the deal but expect BRIAN MCBRIDE to head to CHICAGO to play for the FIRE. After the OLYMPICS that is…….Pretty enticing having Cuauhtemoc BLANCO (ALL STAR MVP) scheming and creating with Mcbride in front of him.

Your thoughts on the ALL STAR GAME, Dynamo Soccer Report, McBride and KAMARA…….
