MLS agrees to Altidore transfer fee with Villareal/ Dynamo washed out at RFK

Major League Soccer has agreed to a transfer fee with Villareal concerning the New York Red Bulls teen age- striker.
Villareal were Spanish League runner-ups this past season and one of a few teams including Real Madrid and Newcastle that showed interest in Altidore.
The transfer fee is only part of the equation as Altidore has to agree to contract terms and then pass a physical with the club.
Frankly heading to Europe is the best thing that could happen to Altidore for a variety of reasons . Mainly for the fact that the New York Red Bulls are not equipped right now to take him to the next level. They currently have bigger fish to fry like the stadium issue and finding direction for the club…….Rumor also has his recent success making him comfortable and now much like Freddy Adu he will be one of many good soccer players in a well-known club that will have to produce. The move should if all works out accelerate his development.

DYNAMO WASHED OUT AT RFK

It is a rare ocurrence when a soccer game is washed out but that was the case at RFK stadium tonite. The field saturated held water and made the conditions extremely dangerous for the players and the correct thing was done in cancelling it.
For those watching on 55 I hope you enjoyed RENO 911.
Only 16 minutes were played in this game which had Pat Onstad producing a few saves and the Dynamo dangerous on some counter-attacks on a field that was 30% under water.
Sort of reminded you of the 96 MLS Cup final at Foxboro between DC/LA……On this night mother nature robbed us of what was going to be a very interesting game between DC and the Dynamo.
A big letdown as I really wanted like many to see this one unfold.
So what happens now? Does Eddie Robinson’s suspension go to Sunday? And when will this be re-scheduled? No one knows the answers quite yet.
All not lost though as the Dynamo and staff will all go to White House tomorrow. Front office members Chris Canetti, Oliver Luck, Steve Powell and Bryan Kraham all in town to take in the game and the visit with the President to honor last years MLS Cup Championship.
The Dynamo are the first team to go to the White House back to back from MLS.

The U.S. National team was defeated 1-0 by SPAIN in Santander..what was your take on this match and what do you as U.S. Soccer fans have to sink your teeth into as postives? Was it better than the U.S./England?
I thought Freddy Adu had a few good moments……

Don’t forget the Dynamo take on Toronto FC Sunday night at Robertson Stadium www.HoustonDynamo.com

Dynamo must not let DC United “play”

mullen.jpg

Dynamo take on DC United tonite on Channel 55 (6:30 Central) at RFK.
Six months ago the Dynamo won the MLS Cup in the nations capital. The Dynamo will try to break their RFK jinx tonite where they have never won.
Now this game is intriguing as the Dynamo produced an important home win against New York this past Saturday night without four starters .
Eddie Robinson is suspended for the silly incident in Dallas while Wade Barrett has been injured. Dwayne DeRosario and Pat Onstad are also available after duty against Brazil for Canada.
DC United last Thursday gave us glimpses into what they can do if given the room to play at RFK which is a large surface.
NE allowed them to play and DC if not for Matt Reis in goal for the Revs should have been up 3-0 at halftime.
A squad that is comprised of numerous players from South America must be denied the room and time to play of they can be extremely dangerous with Luciano Emilio, Fred, Marcello Gallardo and Jaime Moreno.
Santino Quaranta has also improved of late.
DC defensively still is a question with the balance between Simms and Gallardo plus a back-line that has been shaky at times.
This should be an intriguing one tonite……..
