Dynamo knock off Fire/ Worst MLS game of the year?

Having called the NE/San Jose match last night at Gillette Stadium all I can say is that I may have seen the worst MLS game of the year. Certainly it was the most passionless. Was it just one of those nights? Maybe. But when it comes to San Jose it was a less than professional performance just from the standpoint of coming to compete.
From the opening whistle it looked as though the Earthquakes did not want to be in NE.
The Revolution scored 6 minutes in through a poorly defended free kick which Kheli Dube finished and then probably the worst own goal of the season when James Riley went to head back to Joe Cannon who raced off his line. Riley put his header over Cannon and in.
The second half was a bit better from the Quakes but you could see that San Jose coach Frank Yallop was clearly upset about the lack of fight and desire.
I have not seen anything on the Dynamo except the result against the Fire so help me out here with your thoughts on the game…

  1. Great game in very tough conditions to play in. Cold rain wet grass and lightning struck during the game. Clark and Boswell came through to win without any bunkering. I luved it

  2. The Dynamo played with a lot of heart and really attacked all game. Blanco’s performance with trying to influence the rookie ref’s decisions was pathetic. I am glad he was booked. As Rudy T. said years ago, “never underestimate the heart of a champion.” Dom has set a culture in this team that every coach in the league needs to take note of.

  3. Glenn, It looked like the Old Dynamo were back. Blanco did his usual flopping and crying and it got them a goal when Erob had a bad foul and Carrachio didn’t mark Carr in the box. On the positive side, Mullan, Holden, and Mulrooney controlled the flanks. Great services and short passing game set up both goals by them. Thursday’s quick turnaround game at SJ will be great considering momentum is building. Will Davis and Waibel be available when DeRo and others start getting nationel team callups? Do you have any idea who is holding up the Stadium “Negotiations”? I can’t believe they are well into their THIRD Season and absolutely NOTHING is DEFINITE yet. It was the main reason we even got a team in the first place.

  5. Glenn, I have to eat my words and glad to do so. The “old” Dynamo team that we have seen these past several years played last night against the Fire. They played with skill, passion and determination. This team is championship caliber and the way they played last night, they will be a force to be reckoned with. The shot that DeRo took on goal was a beauty. It was a rocket that I know if he had to do it again, he would have aimed for a corner. First time for Kyle Brown and I was impressed. He has good size. Kinnear does not sub much, but when he does, it seems to spark the team. The announcer spoke of the new developmental player that evidently was on the sidelines. He is supposed to have blazing speed and that is what we need on the wing. If Corey Ashe continues to develope, we may have that player. All in all, it was a good effort and all us fans were very pleased with it.

  6. Good game overall. They probably would have looked better without some of those mistakes, losing the ball. But that was mostly due to the wet conditions and a lot of slipping not really their fault. Clark got a lucky bounce off a defender and the keeper slipped trying to get to it but I’ll take it. Boswell’s goal was excellent. Blanco was absolutely disgraceful in his treatment of the ref. He acted like a spoiled brat trying to get his way. I thought he was a forty year old man but he through more temper tantrums than some eight year olds I know.
Any other player would have been ejected bu the end of that game but all he got was a yellow in stopage. Double-standard much?

Manny, that speedy new developmental player was probably Guy-Roland Kpene. He signed a development contract after-all.

  7. Glenn,

Dynamo dominated play for about 75 minutes. For the first time in a while, we attacked the wings and Brian Mullan had a great game attacking and crossing. Rico/DeRo’s goal was a bit of luck, but those are goals that you need. Boswell’s was strong. The play was very solid and ball movement was great, even in poor conditions. Great job for the boys in Orange.

I was going to ask you about that San Jose/New England game. I am glad they didn’t make me sit through that. Care to comment on James Riley’s finishing? I think that was the best shot on goal I have seen from San Jose all year, and it was on their own net!

I just got done watching LA smack FC Frisco 5-1 with a hat trick from Edson Buddle. You remember Edson Buddle, don’t you? Also, our old buddy Adrian Serioux was sent off for a nasty tackle on “Captain Becks”. Any chance MLS grows a sack and suspends Serioux for 3 games for that?

Glenn, when will MLS start slapping three game bans for violent conduct red cards? It happens in other leagues around the world, and it is amazing to see tackles like Serioux’s or Castro’s kick to Kevin Goldwaite’s crotch get a one match ban. I understand Eddie Robinson getting a three match ban for his elbow, but the league needs to be consistent.

Up the Blues! Vidic made the mistake of calling out Didier Drogba for his theatrics. Last person who did that watched Drogba celebrate a goal in front of him. Fear the wrath of Drogba!

Inter Milan won the Serie A. Portsmouth also won the FA Cup. No one seemed to notice either event!

  8. Carrachio did not loose Carr in the box, Dero did. Carrachio was part of the two man wall fronting Blanco. The announcer, Jolly, kept repeating that carrachio lost his man but one minute before Pallilo set up the scene saying carrachio and mullan were part of the wall, the replay shows #10 in the wall and Dero losing Carr. I think Palillo didn’t want to embarrass his booth mate by correcting him. Dero was bad in the first half, passes to nowhere, and only slightly better in the second–of course if he scores all is forgiven.

  9. When Davis returns, the attack will really open up.

  10. we played very solid with a few slip ups! The weather was crap but we stood tall and finished the game in a classey way! Boz did exactly what I thought he would do and score off a free kick! Ryan wasnt really that guy like Boz is and thats good cause not only do you have to watch him you have to watch Eddie too….double trouble! Kyle Brown came on late and totally impressed me with his work ethic and maybe we found someone to help Ching and DRo.
