The inconsistent nature of MLS has made predicting things in the league like rolling dice.
You never know what to expect.
Today when the DYNAMO take on the NEW YORK RED BULLS (7:30 pm on HDNET) change will be in the air for both teams.
The Dynamo will be missing a number of key players including goalkeeper Pat Onstad, midfielder Dwayne DeRosario who are both playing against Brazil for Canada.
Eddie Robinson again has been suspended and will not be available against two of the league’s most physical and talented forwards in Jozy Altidore and Juan Pablo Angel. Can Angel and Altidore take advantage of center backs Bobby Boswell and Patrick Ianni. This could be all about penalty area play tonite….
Can Stuart Holden step up in a more natural role as a central midfielder in the abscence of DeRosario? Can he control a game from this position?
…..
Will Brad Davis get a start and make the impact that is needed from a talented player whom the Dynamo just can’t get on the field?
Tony Caig must produce a strong , decisive game in goal……..but lets not forget that the Dynamo went on that great run last year after missing alot of regulars. This could be a season changing game tonite.
It is a night of opportunity for many Dynamo players?

Dynamo Soccer Report with Glenn Davis airs tonite on channel 55 at 9:30 PM.
Guests include Dynamo head coach DOMINIC KINNNEAR and midfielder BRIAN MULLAN. Fans can also hear from Red Bulls teen-age sensation JOZY ALTIDORE who is interviewed.
Fans can also see the David Beckham 70 yard goal against KC from last weekend’s MLS action that has received over 5 million views on youtube.com
PRACTICE NOTES:
Dynamo had an energetic practice today at Robertson but the question remains as to how they will deal without Dwayne DeRosario, Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson and potentially captain Wade Barrett. Alot will come down to the choices that Dominic Kinnear comes up with to face the Red Bulls who lost 5-1 last weekend to Chicago.
*SPECIAL NOTE: FORMER SAN JACINTO COLLEGE attacker Dane Richards returns to Houston to take on the Dynamo. Last year inexplicably Bruce Arena did not play him at Robertson when the Dynamo thrashed the Red Bulls.
*DALGLISH SIGHTING:
Paul Dalglish showed up at Robertson Stadium today to watch his old teammates. Dalglish has returned to the area with his wife a native Texan and plans on living here.
*FANS are encouraged to get out to the Dynamo game tomorrow to see former Aston Villa star Juan Pablo Angel who scored 19 goals last year and has been bothered by injury this season. Also Jozy Altidore who scored against Mexico at Reliant should be in the starting lineup for the New York Red Bulls who limp into Robertson Stadium with coach Juan Carlos Osorio. The game can be seen exclusively on HDNET. HDNET also will have a halftime report on the Dynamo Stadium issue.
It was a game of two halves as DC United and NE tied 2-2 at Gillette Stadium on MLS Prime Time Thursday last night.
Marcelo Gallardo, Jaime Moreno , Fred helped United control the first half and produce a 1-0 halftime lead.
If not for the stellar goalkeeping of Matt Reis United may have gone into the locker room up 3-0.
Fred produced an early second half goal to make it 2-0 but a tactical change from NE head coach helped to change the course of the game.
Nicol brought Adam Cristman into the game for Wells Thompson. Sainey Nyassi was moved into his more comfortable midfield role from the striker position and the Revs responded with goals from Cristman and Kheli Dube.
Is DC United turning the corner?
*Sources tell me the Revolution are earnest in their desire to build a soccer specific stadium.
* Jaime Moreno was clearly upset late in this match when substituted out but showed fire throughout his time on the field for United.
*How much room did NE give Marcelo Gallardo in the first half. If not for Reis, NE would have been out of this game at halftime. So in a nutshell, great goalkeeping kept them in a position to remain in the game and then a good tactical decision from Nicol helped to change the game.
ON TO THE DYNAMO
The Dynamo will be short-handed this weekend when they take on the New York Red Bulls.
Eddie Robinson is suspended after receiving a red card against FC Dallas on Wednesday. Wade Barrett is injured and both Dwayne DeRosario and Pat Onstad will be away with Canada to take on Brazil .
Ricardo Clark will be back from playing 75 or so minutes for the U.S. against England.
What lineup do the Dynamo bring out against the Red Bulls who come off a 5-1 dismantling against the Chicago Fire.
THE DYNAMO SOCCER REPORT WITH GLENN DAVIS TONITE AT 9:30 PM ON CHANNEL 55
Tonite’s program includes interviews with Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear, midfielder Brian Mullan and New York Red Bulls teen age striker Jozy Altidore.
Rumors, rants and raves , view email and much more on tonite’s show.
If you witnessed the Dynamo 2-2 draw I would like your opinion on the game.
A couple of things to quickly point out that has come out of this game:
*RICARDO CLARKE was missed.
*BRIAN MULLAN apparently was suffering from exhaustion.
*BRAD DAVIS made a difference and DWAYNE DEROSARIO produced a key play in stoppage time to earn the 2-2 draw.
* EDDIE ROBINSON getting ejected means two of the physically strongest forwards in MLS JUAN PABLO ANGEL and JOZY ALTIDORE come to town with the RED BULLS on Saturday night at ROBERTSON STADIUM and won’t have to deal with one of MLS’s better defenders with Robinson suspended.
MLS PRIME TIME THURSDAY TONITE AT 6:30PM ON ESPN 2
* NE Revolution at home against DC United whom the Dynamo will play next Wednesday in DC.
Youth have been carrying the Revs with Sainey Nyassi, Kenny Mansally and Kheli Dube scoring 6 of their 13 goals in the abscence of Taylor Twellman.
DC looks to respond after a come from behind 3-2 win over Toronto FC this past weekend with ARGENTINE MARCELLO GALLARDO and BRAZILIAN LUCIANO EMILIO beginning to find form.
*ANOTHER RANDOM THOUGHT ON THE U.S. /ENGLAND GAME
Of course these games can be looked upon as “friendlies’, but I hate that terminology.
For the United States this was more than a friendly. For proven soccer nations like Brazil, Argentina, Italy….they can call it a “friendly”.
For the United States it is a measuring stick for the team and the public when you play England. Conditions and situation with you or not, it doesn’t matter. We have to begin to measure ourselves from these games not Concacaf countries and that means in the press as well. It was a poor performance and not much stood out from the U.S.
Good news was DaMarcus Beasley returning and if you are a fan of MLS and one of your players like Ricardo Clark in Houston got valuable minutes than it was positive.
The game did nothing for the image of U.S. soccer.
*England beat the U.S. comfortably at Wembley Stadium today 2-0 behind John Terry and Steven Gerrard goals.
David Beckham was impressive in the first half and was credited with the assist to Terry with a beautifully flighted ball.
Terry may have slightly dulled the pain of the missed pk in the Champions League final with this goal and a night he captained his country.
*DaMarcus Beasley returned to the U.S. squad after knee problems for the first time .
Landon Donovan missed out with groin injury suffered in LA win over KC this past weekend. If you saw the game on HDNET , Donovan came out of the KC game with the injury in the latter stages.
*U.S. had little possession and few chances. Eddie Johnson and Josh Wolff ineffective up front but lacked service.
Johnson continues to come back into midfield with most of his runs and plays it safe. Not enough runs trying to get behind defenses from him for my liking and he seems insecure turning and trying to take people on. His attitude for me to score goals does not show a hunger. NOT A SHOWING TO HANG OUR HAT ON…..We must measure ourselves by these games and not Concacaf teams.
*Biggest questions in squad for me: Striker position, creative element out of central midfield……..left back maybe also. Squad had few ideas………
*Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark got the opportunity to go for 78 minutes……
* Former Dynamo Nate Jacqua got a run for the U.S. National team? This might just show with all due respect how the U.S. are seeking answers out up front at the international level…
*Free Kick Masters skills competition has added David Bentley the heir apparent supposedly for David Beckham of England and Bayern Munich’s Lucas Podolski to go along with Ronaldinho, Rafa Marquez, Robinho, Luis Fabiano, Robert Pires, Jared Borgetti, Alessandro Del Piero, Brad Friedel, Oliver Kahn…….Amazing start quality at this event ! Get your tickets at ticketmaster.com
Dynamo at FC Dallas tonite with Dynamo fans making the run up 1-45 to Pizza Hut Park…big game for both of this teams.
Expect Craig Waibel to start at right back, Wade Barrett is a question while former FC Dallas member Richard Mulrooney moves into midfield. A great shot at turning one of the worst Dynamo performances in San Jose around and for FC Dallas the PERFECT moment to get a result over the defending Champions.
FC Dallas defender Drew Moor said on Dynamo All Access that he is sick of the color “orange”.
Sky Sports is reporting that Brian McBride has called it quits out at Fulham FC and heading back to the United States. McBride was quoted to say “This seems like the right moment in my career to move on.” McBride moved to Craven Cottage in 2004 and went on to make over 150 appearances for Fulham scoring 40 times for the London based club.
