With many high expectations this year, fans of the London club Chelsea will not be thrilled to hear the news that their phenom striker Didier Drogba of the Ivory Coast is suffering from degeneration in his left meniscus which will require surgery. With reports he could be out for five weeks, and the African Cup of Nations beginning in January, he may not return to play with Chelsea until late February. Chelsea is currently in third place in the Premiership, six points behind league leading Arsenal.

Arsenal of Argentina wins Copa Sudamerica over Club America of Mexico

It all looked so promising for Club America.
They had done their business capped off by a spectacular, slashing volley from Juan Silva that beat Arsenal de Sarandi goalkeeper Mario Cuenca. That second goal gave Club America a 2-0 lead but more importantly it gave them a 4-3 lead on aggregate on what is this regions equivalent of the UEFA Cup.
Club America thought they were on their way to the title. That is until the 83rd minute when collectively they let down in the penalty area. Three America players including German Villa and Duilio Davino had a chance to tackle Martin Andrizzi who somehow bulled his way through to get off a shot that beat Guillermo Ochoa in goal. With that lone goal the aggregate was now 4-4 but based on away goals in the first leg (3-2 Arsenal win at Azteca) Arsenal killed off the final minutes to win their first title in fifty years.
Club America didn’t go quietly as Duilio Davino and Lucas Castroman were both sent off in the final minutes.
So Club America comes up short. Your thoughts on this occasion.
By the way, wouldn’t it be nice to see Duilio Davino at the back with Eddie Robinson of the Dynamo. Although it won’t happen based the on the Dynamo title run it is interesting to contemplate.
Don’t miss tonite the first leg of the Mexican league final between UNAM Pumas and Atlante at 9pm on Telefutura.
