Hearts are broken. Chivas has failed to advance to the Mexican league finals.
After a 1-0 win over Atlante at home , Chivas lost 1-0 at Atlante. All even right? Wrong!
Despite the goals aggregate being 1-1 which should have either forced extra time or penalty kicks, Atlante advances because they were the higher seed in the tournament.
Ok maybe it rewards a better season but what an unfufilling way to advance. Atlante didn’t beat Chivas, they drew with them.
Now if you are the Mexican league , embrace your playoff system. It was created to add excitement and while doing that it sometimes does not reward the most consistent teams. You can’t have it both ways.
Chivas coach Efrain Flores is a friend of mine so I had a rooting interest , and yes both coaches knew the rules before-hand.
Chivas is out, but they did not lose.
