FC Dallas midfielder Alvarez apologizes for ejection

FC Dallas midfielder Arturo Alvarez apologized for his ejection against the Houston Dynamo.
The incident occurred with Brad Davis just two minutes into the second half where Alvarez kneed Davis.
“It was stupid, immature,” said Alvarez of his ejection. “I knew the importance of the game. I let my team, coaches, fans and organization down. It’s the worst decision I have made in my career. I will think about it a long time.”

Bruce Arena out at New York Red Bulls/Yallop to San Jose

Former US National team coach Bruce Arena is out as coach of the New York Red Bulls.
Arena technically resigned but the word is he was fired.
The Red Bulls were eliminated during the MLS semi-finals by the NE Revolution 1-0 on aggregate and never really put the proper supporting cast around Juan Pablo Angel up front.
Their midfield was old and aging, Claudio Reyna was a bust at 1 million dollars as a designated player and was hurt often. Ironically he went off injured during the Revolution game this past Saturday in the first half.
Frank Yallop is heading back to San Jose from the LA Galaxy.

U.S. and Mexico to tangle at Reliant in February

Word on the street is that the United States and Mexican mens national teams will play a “friendly” at Reliant Stadium on February 6th.
The squads last met in the Gold Cup Final where the U.S. defeated Mexico in a 2-1 come from behind victory to claim supremacy in the region.
Back in 2003 the U.S. and Mexico sold out Reliant Stadium in it’s first ever soccer match as the two teams drew 0-0/

***On an additional note, Frank Yallop is heading to San Jose while rumor has Bruce Arena getting his walking papers at the Red Bull.***

Hristo Stoichkov who has coached Bulgaria is being rumored to be coming back to MLS to take a head coaching position.

South Texas Youth Soccer Association to re-schedule games

South Texas Youth Soccer Association is recommending that games after 12pm this Saturday be re-scheduled.
So lets hope that all the local soccer associations like EDDOA follow through on this and not make the same mistake as last year during the MLS Cup final having games being played on one of the biggest day’s in the continual growth of soccer in Houston.
Put the focus on the professional soccer and it’s grand status this Saturday night because this is another game of opportunity to allow people to grasp the emotion and beauty of the sport.
Cancelling afternoon games allows people to enjoy the build-up of the game, get to the stadium stress free and not be in a rush.
All eyes on the Western Conference Final this Saturday night: Attendance-mandatory. :)

Dynamo environment unmatched with 30,000 on a Friday night

Having physically been at three of the four playoff games this past week I can say that the Dynamo enviroment clearly ruled. The enviroment was amazing and a wonderful night of passion and emotion.
I had goose bumps. From the beach balls, to the chanting, to the jumping, to the color orange it was an unforgettable night and another great step for soccer in Houston.
Can it be matched this Saturday in the Western Conference final against KC? Can the Dynamo pull another 30,000?
Also we must give great credit to the FC Dallas fan base that made it to Houston, they helped create the perfect back-drop and connected the rival by their effort to come to Houston. In fact it looked like a larger contingent then I have seen at their home games. Hopefully they will keep coming out at PHP in the future.
Thumbs up to a great effort from Dallas fans.
DC United fans were awesome also as well as the traveling Fire fans at RFK this past Thursday. What an amazing atmosphere that made calling the game an honor on ESPN2.
The Dynamo fans deserve tremendous credit for creating what was a World Cup like atmosphere at Robertson Stadium.
Now only if mainstream media picked up on this even more.
