An amazing night at Robertson Stadium. Amazing fans, the Dynamo find their game and goals, their star striker is back and now it is time to await Chivas USA or Kansas City.
Lots of great moments and I would like to hear from you what they are.
As for me I have been treated to two amazing atmosphere’s in MLS on consecutive nights, first at RFK last night and tonite at Robertson Stadium.
The stage was set and the Dynamo delivered again. More on that in my Sunday column.
I am off to Chivas USA and Kansas City a game you can see on HDNET tomorrow night at 9:30.
What was your favorite moment of last night’s Dynamo/FC Dallas playoff.
By the way, the U.S. will play Mexico here in February.
Another Houston soccer milestone and Dynamo deliver
Significant night in Houston soccer history tonite
According to Dynamo officials close to 30,000 fans could be a Robertson Stadium tonite as the defending MLS Cup Champions face elimination. The Dynamo after losing the first leg 1-0 to FC Dallas must win by two goals in regulation to advance.
A one goal win would lead to a 30 minute overtime session, if still tied then penalty kicks with a trip to the Western Conference final on the line.
A tie or a loss and the Dynamo would be eliminated
The winner of the Dynamo/FC Dallas semi-final faces the winner of Chivas USA and Kansas City who play tomorrow at the Home Depot Center in California. KC leads that series 1-0 on a goal from Davey Arnaud from Nederland.
Struggles at the back cost DC United
The Chicago Fire knocked out the best team during the regular season at RFK last night drawing 2-2 but winning 3-2 on aggregate due to a 1-0 opening leg win at Toyota Park.
DC United struggled at the back through the entire series and arguably all three goals came off hesitant and poorly aligned defending.
Go back to game one: DC United doesn’t attack a long ball in the air and Chris Rolfe pounces on a ball and lashes it in.
Last night on the first goal the DC center backs were poorly aligned, Greg Vanney was pulled out wide slightly by Cuautemoc Blanco and a beautiful ball by Calen Carr found Chad Barrett.
On the second goal Blanco headed a ball into the box that should have been cleared by Bobby Boswell who was more concerned with the striker behind him.
One looks at the swap of defenders with the Greg Vanney acquistion from Colorado for Facundo Erpen and ask the question was it worth it? Young naive defenders like Devon McTavish, Marc Burch and Bobby Boswell all have bright futures but their play was costly in the playoffs.
Advice to Bobby Boswell, scrap the website and get back to getting focused on becoming a professional soccer player.
Cuauhtemoc Blanco played a part in both goals one with his movement and one with his head.
