Dynamo Power Hour with Glenn Davis tonite 7pm-9pm/England lose
Lets make this clear
The Dynamo have a chance to win the Western Conference regular season title this Saturday night (FSC 8:30 Central time) against Chivas USA.
If they can WIN the Dynamo will have home field advantage in the playoffs (if you really call it that in the first round, what this really does is gives you the opportunity to host the Western Conference Championship).
ONLY A WIN at Chivas USA will win the Western Conference for the Dynamo as they are currently 1pt behind Chivas USA. A tie will do the Dynamo no good as each would earn one point.
For some reason it has been circulating around that the Dynamo only need a tie to secure the west.
Can they do it without Eddie Robinson and Ryan Cochrane?

Mission accomplished for Dynamo as they defeat Real Salt Lake 1-0
The Houston Dynamo got a 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake courtesy of a goalkeeping mistake by Nick Rimando of RSL on a Stuart Holden cross. Nevertheless the win puts the Dynamo in the position where it can win the Western Conference title this Saturday night against Chivas USA. Significant because if the Dynamo win the regular season conference title they will have home field advantage straight through the playoffs. Some thoughts:
*The win came at a price as the Dynamo lost center backs Eddie Robinson (soft red card) and Ryan Cochrane (yellow card) for the Chivas USA match as both will be suspended. Patrick Ianni will come and Craig Waibel slides into the middle begging the question who will play right back? Richard Mulrooney? Brian Mullan?
The abscence of Ricardo Clark is evident here.
*Holden’s cross was comically muffed by RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando who moments earlier had robbed him with an amazing reaction save. Rimando is as good as any at reaction type shot stopping but has always been suspect on controlling his penalty area when it comes to crosses. The best and worst of the RSL goalkeeper.
*This was an ugly game like all games at Rice Eccles Stadium, show me one that wasn’t. Yet it was not a night for aesthetics as the result was accomplished. If not for the importance of the result this was a tough watch with football lines, minimal possession and a terrible surface. Bring on the new stadium in Sandy.
*Brian Mullan made space for himself numerous times out wide yet couldn’t find his normal quality service.
*Real Salt Lake is not the best of squad’s (ok I am being nice here) that becomes competitive at home because of the artificial surface. The place is hard all around, not soft enough for soccer.
*Dominic Kinnear was able to avoid (if he ever had the intention) of using Brian Ching in Utah, his health is a key for playoff success, The squad was also without Dwayne DeRosario on family issue in Toronto.
*Richard Mulrooney did alot of the dirty work in this one and kicked one ball off the line while Pat Onstad dealt with crosses in the penalty area perfectly.
* After Eddie Robinson was ejected it took only four minutes for Yura Movsisyan the Real Salt Lake forward to look really inane.
He pushed Pat Onstad and got himself sent off and effectively killed off any momentum that could potentially have come from the Robinson ejection, Onstad himself was funny as he initially went towards Movsisyan and then started pulling his teammates away, the beauty of being a veteran toying with these young emotional players …..
Down to the final game of the year…………Your thoughts on the Dynamo win over Real Salt Lake?

Dynamo at Real Salt Lake
First off Dynamo fans I think you must send a few packages to Omar Cummings and maybe even Conor Casey for producing that final 90th minute goal with ten men for the Colorado Rapids who knocked off Chivas USA at home. That was the first loss of the year for the sister squad to Chivas of Guadalajara.
Tonite at Real Salt Lake the Dynamo face a tricky squad and a poor artificial surface which concerns me when players are coming back from injury.
Dynamo may start with Nate Jacqua as their target man and rest Brian Ching or use him off the bench.
Dwayne DeRosario is not available tending to family issues and with the suspension of Ricardo Clark others will need to step up tonite on the campus of the University of Utah.
Stuart Holden and Brad Davis all of a sudden go from key players trying to get game fit to players that have to help secure a crucial road win.
Win it tonite and the Dynamo can take the Western Conference this weekend against Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center.
Former Houston area youth product Willis Forko could get a start for RSL.
Can the Dynamo get their possession game going on the fake stuff?
The game airs tonite on Channel 55 at 8pm.
Door is open for the Dynamo in the Western Conference
The Colorado Rapids have opened the door for the Houston Dynamo to win the Western Conference and home field advantage after defeating Chivas USA today on a 90th minute goal from Omar Cummings.
The loss was the first for Chivas USA at home and they also have been dealt a major injury blow with the loss of striker Ante Razov for 4-6 weeks.
With a win against Real Salt Lake Monday night in Salt Lake City the Dynamo can creep to within one point of Chivas USA. The two teams will then meet the following weekend at the Home Depot Center with the conference title on the line.
DC United has won the Supporters Shield for the best regular season record also based on the Colorado result over Chivas USA.
DC United wins Eastern Conference
DC United by virtue of a 0-0 draw with the Chicago Fire last night secured the Eastern Conference title and home field advantage in the play-offs.
In front of 25,000 fans it was a game of two halfs at RFK Stadium in Washington DC.
Chicago gained numerous dangerous attacks via the counter-attack in the first half with Chad Barrett in particular getting a three or four chances which he should have delivered at least once on. Troy Perkins was outstanding in goal for DC United whose best chance came from Roland Guy Kpene who hit the post.
In the second half United brought on Brian Carroll for Kpene to shore up their midfield which it did and the game became more of a tactical battle ending in a tie. Christian Gomez then went up front and got considerably less of the ball.
Luciano Emilio was effectively marked out of the game by CJ Brown and Dasan Robinson of the Fire.
Notable was the abscence of DC United’s Jaime Moreno who was with Bolivia who got hammered by Uruguay 5-0 in South American World Cup qualifying.
A new rye playing surface has been installed at RFK and should look fantastic by the time the MLS Cup comes around in November.
Davis MLS Power Rankings
MLS Power Rankings heading into this weekend:
1. DC United: Tied KC last weekend with stomach problems effecting team. Concern over Josh Gros head injuries.
Without Jaime Moreno tonite who is with Bolivia in WCup qualifying. A win or a draw and they win the East and
home field advantage.
2. Chivas USA: Lost two points on Thursday in 0-0 draw against FC Dallas but lost even more with Ante Razov who could be out 4-6 weeks. Maykel Galindo also has groin problems which exposes their lack of depth up front.
3. Houston Dynamo: After scoring ten goals in three games Dynamo produced a dud in front of 30,000 fans their largest crowd of the season losing to the Galaxy 2-1. How will Ricardo Clark suspension effect them. Must find their game on Monday against Real Salt Lake . Health still an underlying issue.
4. Chicago Fire: Their record of 5-3-5 since the arrival of “Temoc’ and Juan Carlos Osorio their new head coach. Fire with a result tonite at DC would be playoff bound. Huge win over NE last weekend.
5. LA Galaxy: Four straight wins under Frank Yallop with a cast of characters that look like Houston City Council (just kidding). Some like Josh Tudela and Mike Randolph may have never seen the field if not for injury and have taken advantage of their opportunity. With Landon Donovan anything can happen. David Beckham could play in final game of the year.
6. NE Revolution: Steve Nicol’s squad needs to find it’s mojo heading into the playoffs and have faded in it’s chance to win Eastern Conference. A Lamar Hunt US Open Cup title should only add to the insatiable appetite to win the MLS Cup where they have been three times as a bridesmaid.
7. FC Dallas: The only way that Denilson is not a bust if they go on an improbable playoff run. Arturo Alvarez is their most dangerous player and makes slightly less than the Brazilian great. Ruiz a step slower still seems intent on fouling people first and playing soccer second. Can he produce?
8. New York Red Bulls: Struggling as Bruce Arena and staff did not get the balance right. Who would have thought this team can’t step out on the field without Joe Vide and Dane Richards? Too many aging players and shuffling line-ups to make up for suspect player choices. Time for Claudio Reyna to earn his million or be remembered as the least impactful designated player.
Juan Pablo Angel would have 25 goals if on a better team. Pure class and doesn’t break a sweat.
9. Colorado Rapids: Somehow are still in it with a front office and ownership that doesn’t give a dam about competing for MLS titles or improving their producet. No focal point from a player standpoint. But hey, nice stadium.
10: Real Salt Lake: A few results and a new gm in Garth Lagerway. With a new stadium they have a bright future but can two “green” components in Jason Kreis and Lagerway turn things around? Lets hope so.
11: Kansas City Wizards: Leaking goals like crazy after a promising start under Curt Onalfo, scares me to have to put too much stock in talented Eddie Johnson who just doesn’t seem fully matured.
12: Columbus Crew: Sigi Schmid has had poor fortune and injuries but hey everybody has had injuries.
Still seeking a way to find out how to bring that “franchise” player to CBus.
13: Toronto FC- Blow up the blueprints, keep Maurice Edu, Jim Brennan, Marvell Wynn and a few others and start from scratch. Love affair with fans will end without a better on field product next year. The odd couple of coaching Mo Johnston and Bob Gansler remain ……interesting?
