Ticket sales approaching 20,000 for Dynamo playoff game Friday

Filed under: Uncategorized — glenndavis @ 3:20 pm

If you were not a part of last years MLS playoffs at Robertson Stadium than you missed an amazing moment in Houston sports history.
There is no doubt that Houston’s most active professional sports fan base will be in playoff form this Friday night at Robertson Stadium when they host rivals FC Dallas.
The atmosphere will be much different than the recent game at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco where FC Dallas took game one 1-0 behind a goal from Clarence Goodson.
Expect Dallas to do a bit of deep defending but if they don’t come out and play some they will have to preserve their lead against a Dynamo squad that is struggling to score goals. IN fact the Dynamo have been shutout twice in their last 4 games and have lacked good wide play.
This is one not to be missed.
The game will only be available on the Free Kick Package with the FC Dallas feed.
Predict your score here and what happens Friday night.

  1. I don’t remember the playoff rules…do we still advance if we win 1-0? I mean, we were on 2nd place and they were 3rd overall, doesn’t that count? or do we have to win by 2 to not go into OT….

  2. Glenn…..Houston 2 Dallas 0….they will live up to being Champions

  3. Nice little shot at the Dallas fans there. Houston fans took one busload of fans to Frisco, we already have 2 buses filled heading for Houston this weekend. One of the best parts about knocking Houston out this weekend will be to not have to listen to your biased announcing again. It was terribly unprofessional on HDNet, the way you were rooting for Houston on a supposedly neutral broadcast.

  4. You are extremely sensitive, yet what I wrote above in the blog is truthful. I do take my broadcasting serious and you are the first person to ever say I was biased. I take great pride on national broadcasts to remain professional and I am sorry that you thought differently.
In fact I was complimentary to FC Dallas and felt they deserved the win.
If you have complaints you can send them to my producer Dewalt@hd.net His first name is Darrell.
As for FC Dallas I am not critical of the fans attending games, I am critical of the organization and maybe you should be too? In fact fans like you apparently accept mediocrity, you should be thankful that some are demanding more.
You should be thankful that some in the media are demanding more because that is the way the league will grown.
I hope you put your effort into pushing your leadership at FC Dallas to do more for the fans and the product.
You are very courageous to call me an idiot via an email without using your real name, pure class.
In the future be like the Tin Man and find some pride and courage and maybe you will use it to demand more from the FC Dallas organization in the future and help the sport grow and then you might be able to put more fans in that beautiful soccer specific stadium.
I will consider your email a compliment.
    Glenn

  5. Wow…I love the rivalry!!! This is only our second year and already there’s so much rivalry between our two organizations…Love it…By the time my little one is maybe 5 yrs old I would like to see this game being labeled a Clasico…Maybe Mr. “you’re an idiot” should try to be a “real futbol fan” rather than a “wanna be hooligan”

  6. While looking up Mlsnet.com I came up with these rules about the 2007 playoffs…why do they have these posted if they’re not going to follow these..we would have ended up playing NY Red bulls instead…

    http://ww2.mlsnet.com/about/league.jsp?section=regulations&content=playoffs

MLS Cup Playoff Format and Team-Standings Tie-Breakers:
Who Qualifies: Eight teams will qualify for the playoffs - the top two teams in each conference plus the remaining four teams, regardless of conference, that have the most points in the standings upon the completion of the their 30-game regular season.

The seeding would look like this:

    4 teams:
    1) Conference Champ with highest point total (Supporters Shield Winner)
    2) The other Conference Champion
    3) Conference runner up with highest point total
    4) Conference Champ runner up with the point total lower than the other Conference Champ runner-up

Of the remaining 9 teams, an additional 4 teams will qualify as follows:
    5) Team with the highest point total (regardless of conference)
    6) Team with 2nd highest point total (regardless of conference)
    7) Team with 3rd highest point total (regardless of conference)
    8) Team with 4th highest point total (regardless of conference)

    In the first round, the match-up’s shall be: 1 v. 8; 2 v. 7; 3 v. 6; 4 v. 5

  7. To “You’re an idiot”

Glad that your surname fits yourself. So, after all this time, you guys are just now waking up and starting to have fan support? That only took 12 years…

It’s great that you are gettin 2 buses but your SGs, fans, and especially FO have a long way to go.

And Glenn is one of the best soccer broadcasters in the country. He’s one of the most knowledgeable and one of the few who doesn’t drool over Beckham and others and instead calls the game.

Yeah, he is a little biased, but so is everyone else on ESPN and HDNet and so forth. Get over it.

    See you Friday

  8. With all due respect, Mr. Davis, you are the one with the microphone. However, I also sensed a bit of a jab at Dallas fans in this entry, and I also noticed a bit of homerism in the broadcast last week. So let me be the second person to say that. No one can argue what you wrote was untruthful; it was spot on. However, that does not make it professional. Homerism, I can live with. After all, you are nowhere near the homer that say, Suzyn Waldman is. But to continually criticize FCD fans because of the organization is just uncalled for. If you know how to improve the FCD organization, use your status to suggest that to them, since you know better. But it is bush league to validate someone\’s criticism of your work (albeit destructive, cheap criticism) by trying to insult them with an incorrect (tin man wanted a heart, not courage) Wizard of Oz reference. With all due respect once more, What the heck? Somewhere in the midst of all this, there\’s a joke about a scarecrow, but I just don\’t have the heart to make it.
With all the courage in the world,

    Ryan Bonner

  9. I just love blogs..heheheheh…people’s true colors come out…don’t worry Mr. Davis, you will never make every single person happy….

  10. “The atmosphere will be much different than at Pizza Hut Park” was my quote Ryan. How is that a jab at FC Dallas fans? I am not critical of the environment, though dissapointed in the organization, not any FC Dallas fans so please don’t try to turn this into something it is not.
That was hardly an inflammatory blog….and yes the environement will be different and different elements will have to be dealt with by both teams on Friday night, it is a part of sports.
There will be 25,000 connected fans which is a different environment than last Saturday and could effect the game and individual players. Does it lift the Dynamo? Does it intimidate FC Dallas? Do you understand where I am going here.
I do suggest things all the time in my columns on my opinion on how teams can be more relevant in their communities, but accepting it like you seem to have will never spur the FC Dallas organization to greater heights. I am on the same team you are but you just don’t realize it.
Ryan, I have been criticized before and will be criticized again, I am not afraid to put myself out there, I have a responsibility with all my media ventures and love what I do. I also care greatly about the sport as a former professional soccer player that played in front of smaller crowds in the 80’s when no one cared about soccer.
Ryan, I don’t like people who hide behind emails and don’t back up what they say with truth.
Sorry the blog offended you but I stand behind it , I feel you are a bit sensitive.
    Thank you.
    Glenn

Well said in your response. Btw, are you serioux that the Dynamo are expecting 25K+?

Sweet. Keep up the great work.

On the plus side of all this, the Inferno are bringing roughly 150 people. Props to them for (finally) showing up…even if they got FO help :p

Should be a fun game. See you there Friday!

  14. To the Dallas fans whining:
Don\’t the truth hurt? Seriously, Glenn is pointing out the truth, not being bias. You come to Houston, you know the enviornment is totally different from Frisco. Even the commentators in Univision said the same about Houston. So stop being sensitive and accept it. Good job Glenn. I always did like your work, going way back in the FOX Sports World days. This is when there was no Houston Dynamo. Keep it up!

  15. Love the passion on both sides of the fence here. It just confirms that this sport is getting more and more popular in this country and we all win under that scenario.

I\’m a neutral here and am hoping for a great match with lots of atmosphere (25k? Very nice).

Glenn - Love the blog and glad to see you working the ESPN games as well as HDNet. Keep up the good work.
