MLS Prime Time Thursday: FC Dallas hosts Chicago Fire
Two designated players will be on display tonite when FC Dallas and Brazilian Denilson take on the Chicago Fire and Cuauhtemoc Blanco. If the playoffs ended today both teams would be in them with Chicago barely scraping in with the 8th spot.
Both teams are trying to find more definition with personel and lineups. Tonite could be a glimpse into the future for both of these teams.
Houston area products Chris Gbandi and Arturo Alvarez could get the start for FC Dallas who have split their last 6 games and are trying to bring Denilson into their team.
Chicago is a new team on and off the field with the arrival of Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
7pm on ESPN 2.
Dynamo Power Hour with Glenn Davis tonite on 790 The Sports Animal 8pm
Tonite’s show at 8pmwill go back into the past with an interview with Bruce Arena. It is interesting to listen to Arena after the World Cup talk about his squad and it’s problems. Accountability? You decide.
He also talks of his new venture with the Red Bulls in New York.
I will also do a segment from Salt Lake City and discuss the Dynamo and their potential to win a second MLS Cup.

Ching the difference maker
After a first half filled with fouls and poor control the Dynamo found their game against the LA Galaxy this past Sunday at the Home Depot Center. The final scoreline could have been much worse for an LA team that now has the rigors of a poor season firmly in their eyes.
A notable return came with the inclusion of Brian Ching after Joseoph Ngwenya went off with a rolled ankle.
This game clearly shows the importance of the Dynamo striker in it’s playoff future.
The team clearly has a different complexion with Ching in the line-up whose movement caused all sorts of problems for a weak Galaxy.
The Dynamo collected themselves at half-time as a good team should and produced a performance that won them a very valuable three points and a playoff position.
With a bye-week to give key players like Stuart Holden and Brad Davis time to recover the Dynamo could be timing it right.
Do you think the Dynamo will be only the second team in MLS history to defend their MLS Cup title?

Road rules in MLS
It is a great time in MLS and nearly every game has implications now as we head into the stretch drive, don’t blink because before you know it you will be watching the MLS Cup final.
Ok after the Superclassico in California this past Thursday night I have arrived in Kansas City for a very important Eastern Conference match-up tonite at Arrowhead Stadium between the Wizards and the Crew (HDNET 7 Central time).
Essentially 6 points are at stake for these two teams that have struggled to get results.
The air is cool and crisp in KC and it reminds us that with the weather changing in most markets, games will get faster and have more of a sense of urgency.
The Crew are without MLS assist leader Guillermo Barros Schelotto and captain Frankie Hejduk so from an attacking perspective they are limited. Expect them to defend deep and look for an edge on the counter-attack or a set piece.
The first goal in this game will define tactics and Kansas City will want it, no mistake made here they will come out to attack with 14 goal scorer Eddie Johnson leading the way along with a revived Scott Sealy.
Tune in and check it out from Arrowhead, the Wizards are trying to create a new culture in MLS as are the Crew.
Tomorrow I head to LA for the Channel 55 broadcast of the Dynamo and Galaxy.
The Dynamo look to have available Brian Ching , Paul Dalglish and Craig Waibel. Three points vs. LA would be huge as they have a bye next week which will further aid the injured players like Stuart Holden and Brad Davis.

PS: What would you like to see on the Dynamo Soccer Report? email me with your thoughts about the program?
Comedian Carlos Mencia was sitting next to me on the plane sporting a “US Soccer” top.
Beckham in booth/Zidane to Houston
David Beckham will join the ESPN 2 MLS Prime Time Thursday broadcast team that includes Glenn Davis, Eric Wynalda, Tommy Smyth in the booth tomorrow night at 9pm during the Chivas USA /LA Galaxy match.
Beckham is two weeks into re-hab and is not available for the “Superclasico” rivalry for the two Los Angeles squads.
Zinedine Zidane will be coming to Houston to perform in the Free Kick Masters skills competition at Reliant Stadium on December 22nd. Zidane has been added to an impressive list that includes Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, Alessandro Del Piero, Deco, Luis Figo and more. The event is an all day soccer celebration and brings the world’s greatest stars under one roof.
Dynamo Power Hour with Glenn Davis tonite at 7pm on 790 AM
The Dynamo Power Hour with Glenn Davis tonite features past interviews with Dynamo midfielder Dwayne DeRosario and head coach Dominic Kinnear as they were interviewed after winning the 2006 MLS Cup. Also a past interview with Freddy Adu and much more.
Tune in at 7pm on 790 the Sports Animal.
Chivas USA breathing down Dynamo backs
Chivas USA have put themselves in poll position to win the Western Conference and that coveted home field advantage.
Now granted the Dynamo have a two point lead over the “Goats” in the West but Chivas USA have three games in hand.
A full nine points available. In essence the Dynamo really need to win out in their final few games of the year.
Injury crisis?
The Dynamo clearly are missing the input of Brian Ching, Brad Davis and Stuart Holden. These three players alone will increase your ball possession and element of danger as a team.
The game in Los Angeles this weekend looms large as the Dynamo would love to take the full three points off the Galaxy and then gather a second wind the following week as they have bye in league play.
Getting healthy, a bit of rest, a favorable schedule and their is no reason why the Dynamo can’t do the difficult task of defending their title.
What are your thoughts on the current state of the Dynamo and are they primed for a title run?

Not a field fit for top class international soccer
So I am all excited and have planned my day around catching today’s United States vs. Brazil game from Soldier Field in Chicago.
Here is Brazil coming in with a close to full squad. Ronaldinho, Maicon, Robinho, Kaka they are all there.
The world’s number one soccer team and the standard bearers for the sport. All these players are multi-millionaires .
A great opportunity for the United States to measure itself on and off the field.
Imagine my surprise and disgust (maybe like you) with the absolute horrid conditions of the field for these players.
That is just from the issue of safety and then you get into the general way it looks with brown grass and football lines painted all over the field.
No doubt it was a financial success but from the standpoint of earning credibility for the presentation of the sport in this country it failed and failed badly. No excuse will suffice here. This was the world’s number one team.
So once again when the U.S. claims it wants to align itself with the world in soccer both on and off the field we produce a badly beaten up Soldier Field for this gem of a game.
Even Clint Dempsey of the U.S. National team said during a post game interview that the field was in poor condition.
Were we supposed to pretend that atrocity of a field was not there?
Earning credibility not only comes with what U.S. teams do on the field but it also comes with how the game is presented.
Lets just hope that the MLS playoffs the league and clubs are doing everything in their power to present the game correctly and not hide behind the fact that it is NFL season.
Ok on to a very interesting and exciting game and a tremendous opportunity to play the world’s best.
*Kaka is faster than most while running with a ball at his feet.
*Bob Bradley is pretty consistent now with his use of Landon Donovan and DaMarcus Beasley out wide in midfield and going with two holding type midfielders. Too bad that out of that area one of the two midfielders didn’t have more when it comes to running at defenses.
*Carlos Bocanegra is being groomed to lead this team.
*Would have loved to see this team with Brian Ching, Ricardo Clarke and Jonathan Bornstein.
*Clint Dempsey took his goal well and I am a big fan. Still trying to figure out what will be his most effective position internationally.
*Brazil at times can just leave you in awe but the U.S. represented.
