Former Mayde Creek High School player Josh Gardner and the Seattle Sounders won the USL-1 title last night over the Atlanta Silverbacks.
Gardner a left-sided midfielder picked up his third title as a professional having won an MLS Cup and a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup while a member of the LA Galaxy for three years.
The Sounders have consistently been one of the top franchises in the USL and are coached by Brian Schmetzer.
Seattle is considered a top destination for future expansion in MLS.

i\’d like to see a more european style league format with regard to relegation. instead of adding expansion franchises, i think quality USL teams should have the opportunity to jump up to MLS and vice versa. it would make watching USL a little more interesting and would make a match like RSL v Col. etc. a little more entertaining to know something is on the line for both clubs. is there any possibility of this ever coming to fruition?
