DC United head coach Tom Soehn wanted to rest Ben Olsen and Jaime Moreno for the upcoming 2nd leg of the Copa Sudamericana at Chivas but couldn’t do it.
After a sub-par first half against Toronto FC that saw them down 1-0 to a `14the minute Carl Robinson goal things changed in the second half.
Coach Tom Soehn gave United a tongue lashing at half time, inserted Moreno and Olsen and it was “game on ” at RFK.
United scored 4 goals in 18 minutes to remind Toronto FC that they are an expansion team.
Goals from Marc Burch, Fred, Moreno and Emilio turned put the match beyond doubt.
United heads to Guadalajara tomorrow with a 2-1 advantage to take on Chivas in a huge international match to try and advance in the Copa Sudamericana. No MLS team has won in Mexico.
Chivas Coach De La Torre was fired last week and Efrain Flores has been inserted as Chivas coach and they won tonite 3-1 over Veracruz .
Brazilian Fred left the game against Toronto FC with five minutes left and seemed to have a groin injury which could be an issue at Jalisco Stadium.
Does DC break the duck and get the first ever win in Mexico for MLS?

I don’t know if United break the seal here and get a win, but at least a tie is certainly attainable. Chivas is in disarray, and this will be the best opportunity that an MLS team has had to beat a Mexican team in Mexico thus far.

Nick,
Having already been down there and performed admirably this could be United’s chance.
Unfortunately they had to play Ben Olsen, Jaime Moreno more than they would have liked last night.
Fred also went off injured at the end.
Should be a great one.
