Ironically David Beckham scored his first free kick goal for LA in front of a half full Home Depot Center.
His 27th minute strike was world class and left DC United goalkeeper Troy Perkins helpless.
Beckham then weighted a beautiful pass to Landon Donovan that led to the second and final LA goal that sends them to the Superliga final against Pachuca.
Ok back to the irony. With ESPN hoping to catch this moment it was Univision who are the sole rights holders to the Superliga on television who caught Beckham’s first goal.
The team clearly looks better with the Beckham influence. More motivated players, more confidence and more organization are clearly evident with Beckham in the line-up. The great ones influence and Beckham did on this evening.
The Beckham/Donovan combination came to life for the first time on the second goal with Beckhams pass turning DC defender Josh Gros inside and out.
He also was clearly committed in to the tackle and got whacked himself by Ben Olsen of DC United.
OK on to more significant moves in the sport of soccer. The Houston Dynamo secured their largest sponsorship ever with Amigo Energy purchasing the front of the Dynamo jerseys for 7.5 million dollars over four years. This is clearly another significant move as the sport goes forward in the world of business.
Business, soccer, community …..it all makes sense in Houston, Texas and more business leaders are realizing the opportunity when sponsoring soccer.
Your thoughts on Beckham and the world of soccer?

A historic night in Houston soccer
The Dynamo/Pachuca Superliga match provided all the elements for 21,000+ fans at Robertson Stadium.
Fantastic goals, three red-cards, sublime play and raw will-power wowed an emotionally connected stadium.
In the end Pachuca wins it on penalty kicks and advances in the Superliga but this night clearly was a night of history in Houston soccer lore.
Professional soccer took another step forward because any fan that attended this game live will never forget this important international match.
What are your thoughts?

Injury crisis hit Dynamo for tonite against Pachuca
Dynamo players Ricardo Clark, Stuart Holden and Ryan Cochrane will not be available for this evening’s critical match against Pachuca in the Superliga. Clark still has ankle problems after getting injured in the MLS All Star game and will not be available leaving the ever important holding midfield role to Richard Mulrooney who has performed in that position wonderfully.
Expect something like this for a starting line-up:
Onstad-GK
Waibel-RB
Ianni-CB
Robinson-CB
Barrett-LB
Mulrooney-Holding mid
DeRosario-attacking mid
Mullan -wide mid
Jacqua-wide mid
Ching-For
Ngwenya-For
Dynamo and Pachuca classic tonite deserves more attention
The Dynamo take on Pachuca tonite in what is one of the biggest games of the year.
Pachuca the champions of Mexico, against the Dynamo the Champions of the USA.
What more can you ask for?
Ticket prices are amazingly cheap! Four tickets for $45 plus a parking pass plus the intimacy of Robertson Stadium.
These teams have played in the Concacaf Champions Cup and the games were amazing with the Dynamo posting a home 2-0 victory.
So why am I not feeling the buzz that I should be around this game?
Has local media failed to grasp the importance of this game that is beamed to various location around the world and will do great ratings on Univision?
What are we missing and what am I missing?
Is it the start time at 9pm? Is this too pro-Hispanic with only the broadcast in Spanish and a 9pm start?
The Rockets, Astros and Texans do not play international games against anyone so this is unique?
Tell me your thoughts on why you are going and why you are not going but tell me something?

Hahnemann stars against Manchester United
They were not even sure he would be ready for Sundays game against Manchester United but Reading manager Steve Coppell gave Marcus Hahnemann the start at Old Trafford and he responded with an amazing performance producing five important saves against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Nick O’shea and Wayne Rooney to earn the 0-0 draw and take a road point.
The last time I saw Hahnemann and interviewed him in Colorado his hand was in a cast and he had surgically placed pins strategically placed. Amazing recovery and an amazing performance. When will he get a few games for Bob Bradley and the U.S. National team?
Wayne Rooney fractured his foot in this game and could be out for up to three months after he got caught by Readings Mike Duberry.
EPL off and running/Dynamo downed at Colorado
What a start to the English Premier League season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane got his first Premiership win 1-0 as Sunderland beat Tottenham, 60,000 at the Emirates caught the Arsenal come-back over Fulham, Liverpool got a 2-1 win on a Steven Gerrard game-winner over Aston Villa and Manchester United is getting set to kick-off against Reading. Have your say on the amazing start to the EPL season.
Dynamo go down 1-0 at Colorado and look average. The difference a Dwayne DeRosario own goal and if you would have predicted a Colorado victory that would have been the scoreline. They just aren’t dangerous.
Dynamo had the better chances but didn’t produce their best soccer and lost their second consecutive league game. Next up a huge game for the franchise against Pachuca in the Superliga semi-finals this Tuesday.
Fans will want to get out to this one and youth clubs have responded to cancelling training and getting their players and parent out to this rare international game.
This clubs have had the forsight to cancel training : CY FAIR DYNAMOS, TEXAS PREMIER, TEXAS RUSH, TEXANS FC, TEXAS SC, HOUSTONIANS, TEXAS HEATWAVE.
See you on Tuesday at Robertson.

Dynamo/Rapids preview “game on” HDNET tonite at 8pm
They met in the finals of the Western Conference last year at Robertson Stadium and many remember that memorable night.
Yet tonite when these two teams face each other they are in far different places.
The Dynamo currently are the best team in Major League Soccer followed by last year’s MLS finalists the NE Revolution.
The two teams have shown the most consistency once again in MLS.
As for Colorado they are fighting for their playoff lives, fighting for identity in Colorado and rumors are swirling around inept management and the possible firing of Fernando Clavijo.
They have quickly become a franchise that one has to wonder if they truly are competing for a championship or are just part of Stan Kroencke and his sports portfolio. The leadership in this organization seems strange and naive
By the way they have an association with Arsenal yet have not even been able to gain an substantial coverage in the local sports pages. What are they doing with the smoke and mirrors of a new stadium , new colors and re-branding.
The recent signing of former Atlas star Daniel Osorno seems to be a small way of saying we are trying to make a difference.
I didn’t even receive a press release on this? Oh yeah that is because former press officer Jurgen Mainka took a new job and he has not been replaced. We could go on and on .
The positive, is the stadium is magnificent.
The face of the Rapids franchise is Pablo Maestroeni a defensive midfielder, that tells you something.
The Rapids can’t score goals, they have tried different alignments but the fact is this team has no attacking focal point and Herculez Gomez, Nico Hernandez, Jovan Kirovski, Terry Cooke, Ricardo Brown (now gone), Conor Casey (over-rated big bust) have not produced. The combination of an organization not willing to put money behind acquiring a top attacking player plus questionable player moves have rendered Colorado impotent on the attack. Besides that, they are not a relevant sports franchise in Denver to the community.
The Dynamo have gotten a much needed rest and will make changes tonite to rest players and allow others to get onto the field.
Altitude, a large playing surface all come into play but if they can get through the next few weeks the schedule becomes very favorable down the stretch.
Stuart Holden and Eddie Robinson most likely will not play and are nursing injuries that could hurt their availability for the Tuesday show-down against Pachuca at Robertson Stadium. This could be a great night to capture back that Robertson Stadium buzz in international competition. It is also great to see youth clubs stepping up to cancel practices like Cy-Fair Dynamos, Texas Heatwave, Texans FC, Texas Premier, Texas Rush, Texas SC. Would this happen in other markets? I wonder?
With Robinson out tonite expect Patrick Ianni and Ryan Cochrane to start in central defense and the midfield should include Ricardo Clarke, Brian Mullan, Richard Mulrooney and Dwayne DeRosario back after missing the last game.
DeRosario had a strong night in a Dynamo win here in Colorado earlier in the season. He could play on the left like he did in the Gold Cup for Canada.
Brian Ching could be rested for Nate Jacqua and Joseoph Ngwenya up front thinking ahead to Tuesday.
Hope that you tune in to HDNET tonite and enjoy the broadcast.

The Peaceful Warrior -Craig Waibel
Time to get back on the horse…..after a couple of days off and some good training sessions we are ready to start fresh.
We seem to have our legs back under us now as well as good spirits flowing through the locker room.
Those two things together add up to a lot of healthy bodies and players looking forward to the final stretch of the season.
The next nine weeks include semis and possible finals of the Superliga as well as the possibility of winning the league.
We are still focused on getting results and re-establishing our shutout habits as well as continuing to register multiple goal games.
We are also excited to get closer to being able to have a full selection for Dom as Brad Davis continues to improve re-hab.
I must say he has been working hard and putting in long hours.
When we are healthy we are the deepest team in the league by far.
As you can tell we have rounded the final turn to the last 10 games and I am excited and I know you are too.
See you at the stadium!

Texas Heatwave Youth Soccer latest to support Dynamo
The Texas Heatwave and Director of coaching JR Lee are the latest youth club to get on board to support the Dynamo on August 14th against Pachuca in the Superliga semi-finals.
Area night of international soccer at Robertson Stadium on Tuesday at 9pm features the Champions of the U.S. and the Champions of Mexico. It should be a memorable night and a can’t miss for Houston sports fans.
These youth clubs are leading the way: Cy Fair Dynamos
Texans FC
Texas Premier
Texas SC
Texas Rush
Texas Heatwave
IF your youth club is not involved in this initiative youth parents and players must ask why?
To not be a part of this is to not get the big picture of player development and what is right for youth players.
OK enough preaching.
