Freddy Adu’s expected move to Benfica is complete after passing a physical yesterday.
Adu signed a five-year deal and is expected to take part in the Champions League with his new team.
After a sparkling performance in the u-20 World Cup Adu’s time to move on became apparent and needed.
Adu will now move on to Portugal not as a novelty because of his age but as another player hoping to make a difference for Benfica. The move to Benfica seems to be a good fit based on the Portugues league and seems this best opportunity for Adu to get playing time as opposed to being on the bench of a Super Club.
At this moment of his career it is time for Adu to get a fresh start in Europe.

Dynamo score 12 seconds in and only produce draw
The Dynamo had control of their own destiny and an opportunity to advance to the semi-finals of the Superliga last night.
Amazing the difference one goal makes in Group play of the Superliga.
Scoring amazingly after only twelve seconds when Joseoph Ngwenya was put in by Brian Ching the Dynamo failed to convert a second goal during their good times in the first half and it came back to bite them in the end.
With more of an edge and attitude in the second half Morelia must have had their pride bruised as they became more competitive and produced the tying goal from Brazilian Marcino to earn a draw.
Aided by an outstanding goalkeeping performance from Moises Munoz, Morelia put themselves back in contention in the Superliga’s group B.
So here is the scenario, the Dynamo and DC are tied with 4 pts a piece after DC defeated Club America who have been eliminated.
With DC United coming to Houston the top spot in the group is on the line Wednesday night. Different scenarios exist but a loss by either the Dynamo or DC coupled with a Morelia win would eliminate them.
The Superliga continues to entertain and will go down to the wire on Wednesday in Group B.
What are youth thoughts on the Dynamo vs. Morelia game?
Blanco impresses in first MLS game
Cuauhtemoc Blanco impressed on his MLS league debut in a 3-0 win over Toronto FC in Toronto this afternoon.
Blanco provided great moments of creativity and provided some great imagination via his passing and dribbling skills.
I like many have waited to see what his impact would be in MLS and on the Fire and so far in two games vs. FC Toronto and Celtic of Scotland “Temoc’ has delivered and he is just what MLS has ordered.
A polarizing figure that elicits reaction the jury is still out over two games. Not on his ability, which is apparent but on how he will adapt to MLS and affect the Fire.
So far so good for Blanco.
Will Blanco impressive over the whole season? Your thoughts?
Dynamo vs. Morelia in Superliga tonite
The Houston Dynamo look to advance the Superliga semi-finals tonite at Robertson Stadium at 9pm vs Morelia.
The intrigue continues in the Superliga with MLS teams winning twice, drawing 3 times and losing once in 6 games.
Chivas proved the better team last night beating the LA Galaxy 2-1 at the LA Coliseum while FC Dallas drew 1-1 with defending Mexican League Champions Pachuca who were on the brink of elimination. In particular the FC Dallas and Pachuca game was entertaining with chances for both teams. Dallas seemingly was again victimized on an apparent goal from Clarence Goodson that was deemed offside. The replay seemed to indicate he was onside.
The Dynamo will likely make three changes tonite with central defender Ryan Cochrane returning to the starting lineup along with
striker Brian Ching. Zach Wells is rumored to get the start in goal in place of Pat Onstad.
Keep an eye on Morelia right back Diego Martinez who scored a long range goal vs. DC United. Martinez loves to get forward from his right back position and essentially turns into a midifielder.
Morelia will be without Luis Landin who was acquired from Pachuca and coach Jose Luis Trejo will rely on goalkeeper Moises Munoz who produced some stellar saves vs DC.
Will the Superliga turn into the Champions League of the Concacaf region? Your thoughts?
Henry returns to the field for Barcelona
Thierry Henry after five months on the sidelines returned to the field for his new club Barcelona and provided the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Dundee United.
The former Arsenal and French international scored off a rebound after coming on as a second half sub.
“I hope it will be the first of many goals,” said Henry. “The important thing was to score and the team to get the result.
Now this should be an intriguing year for all to watch Barcelona and see how manager Frank Rijkaard deals with star players.
Will it be possible for him to get the correct balance of attacking and defending while trying to field a line-up that includes Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, Samuel Ett’o and Henry? Or is it all just talk.

Words from the Peaceful Warrior
News flash traditionalists…..soccer has officially arrived! Last night our game drew 18,000 plus for a 9pm kick-off.
The kicker is that the stadium was dominated by Dynamo fans. For the first time in my career a top flight Mexican Club came to the United States and their fans were barely heard. Last year when Club America came to Houston to play Barcelona all you could
see and hear was the yellow filling up Reliant, but last night orange shirts and voices dominated the stands at Robertson Stadium.
It was a hard fought game that ultimately resulted in the right team winning on the night.
We were the better team and deserved the victory. The game was intense but not out of hand as both teams worked very hard and competed quite fairly for the most part. I think that this tournament is great for the game in this region of the world and will serve a great building block for international exposure of soccer in our region.
I know our locker room is proud to represent the MLS in these competitions and very happy with the steps being taken in the league.
One last quick thought…..Far to often in sports people get blinded by their pride, last night Club America coach Fernando Tena an his players were absolute class after the match. Their comments to the media were full of respect and for that I say thank you. I have a ton of respect for their organization and it’s player after seeing their professionalism over the past couple of days.
I believe that this tournament has the potential to aid in the growth of respect that our countries should have for each others style of play. Through these games fans with open minds will hopefully learn to watch and enjoy the way all of these teams play the game.
Until next time.
