Paraguay crushed Colombia 5-0 in in their opening Copa America group play.
Roque Santa Cruz scored 3 times while Salvador Cabanas scored twice to wreck a dis-organized Colombia.
Colombian goalkeeper Miguel Calero who plays for Mexican league champions Pachuca was beaten five times and looked slow and hesitant in goal.
The United States will play both of these teams in group play.

After the horrible game the U.S. had, this is at least something to be grateful for, Colombia seems to be lost, which means that if the U.S. gets a tie against Paraguay and defeat Colombia they are in the next phase, 4 points will get you to the next phase, if they loose against Paraguay by defeating Colombia they can still hope for a miracle (that no other 3rd place gets 3 points or that even with the 4-1 score they get a better goal differential).

Glenn,
Maybe you could offer some insight into the downfall of Colombian soccer in an extended post. It is truly astonishing how they have fallen. My own theory is that once the cartels were broken up, the drug money evaporated from Colombian soccer, and the infrastructure went to hell. The epic collapse of Millionarios would provide some evidence of this. What do you think?

Colombia needs to improve a lot, hopefully they had
one really bad game and no more.
