Brazil: Did they even care?

Filed under: Uncategorized — glenndavis @ 9:04 am

Now not to take anything away from a great result from Mexico but did Brazil even care last night in their 2-0 loss to Mexico.
No energy, limited imagination and not living up to the legendary Canary yellow jersey.
I know they were without Ronaldinho and Kaka and others but the whole theory of Brazil being able to field two or three national teams went out the window with that performance.

  1. Glenn - Do you happen to know which pubs/bars will be airing the Copa America matches on GolTV? I believe Richmond Arms and The Mezzanine Lounge will both have the matches but i want to see if you knew of any others.

    Thanks.

  2. Neri goal was delightful and Ramoncitos goal left the Brazilian keeper with MAFIA BOOTS…aka he was wearing cement blocks. THat was embarassing for the Seleccao!

  3. Brazil is missing 3 players, 2 of those in my opinion are the best players of Brazil, Ronaldinho and Kaka, the third player is like Borguetti, without him Brazil plays better Ronaldo, his prime is long gone and without him they stop sending a lot of useless passes.

The theory about fielding 2 or 3 national teams, well, the eleven starters are starters in European top leagues, OK, the starters and the subs, yesterday we had players from Real Madrid, Roma, Porto, Lyon, Manchester United, Werder Bremen and if I´m not mistaken Vagner plays for CSKA Moscow.

The problem was not the players, even without Ronaldinho and Kaka Brazil is the team with the highest number of European players in the tournament with 19, not even Argentina that is playing with all of their starts have 19, they have 17.

The problem with Brazil is the problem Mexico had with U.S., Mexico was very arrogant, they thought they could win by just showing, and then when they lost the Mexican side always had excuses, that changed this last Sunday, I heard 6 or 7 players saying U.S. won because they played better, and for the first time in 8 years I saw the Mexican players playing like they play against great teams, with heart.

Yesterday Brazil lost their second official game in a row against Mexico, lets remember that they also lost against Mexico in 2005 in the Confederations Cup in Germany, and by the way, Brazil has lost all of their confederations matches against Mexico, the other time they played that cup Mexico won the Championship game, not to mention the 2 times Brazil played the Gold Cup, they lost their 2 games against Mexico, and the fact this is not the first time Mexico wins against them in Copa America.

In fact, if you watch at all the results of official games in the last 15 years, Mexico has won more games than Brazil, no, I´m not kidding, Mexico has won more official games.

Why?, my guess is that Brazil is paying the same price Mexico used to pay with the U.S., the difference of course being that Brazil is still a better team than Mexico, but the other difference is that Mexico learned his lesson and now they know they need to give their 100% and more against the U.S., Brazil has not learn the lesson, yesterday was proof of that.
But regardless of the squad they presented yesterday, regardless of their level yesterday, the fact is that in the last 15 years Brazil has not been able to have a winning record against Mexico, go figure, that and the fact Mexico keeps getting respect from Copa America.

  4. A win against Brazil is always big, but the result was not that suprising. Brazil starts slow even for the World Cup. Mexico needs to show they can beat Brazil/Argentina passed the first round and eliminate either of them preferably for the cup.

  5. The game was a big disappointment. I was all ready to see some incredible soccer and all I got was a completely uninspired performance from Brazil. Castillo\’s goal was really nice, though. Any word on him getting looks from bigger clubs?

  6. You know what was the best moment of the game in my opinion. At the end of the 1st half, Nery Castillo faked out one of the Brazil defenders and the defender was not pleased by it. Anyways the defender went up to Castillo and started jawing him and guess what Nery did not back down, didn\’t turn away, didn\’t walk away. He stood there and stared right back at the Brazil defender.

This is exactly the kind of attitude the Tri needs!!!! No more excuses and man up. This kid is teaching his teammates how to play, with no fear and reckless abandon.

I can\’t wait for the starting lineup that includes: Castillo, Dos Santos, Vela, Guardado, Ochoa and Dos Santo #2.

  7. It has nothing to do with Brazil. It has to do with Dunga. The man is not a coach. He has created more questions than answers on his calling of certain players.Dunga has no strength in this team and Brazil will operate more individualistic than as a team because of his lack of direction. How does he get the conviction of putting Elano, Robinho, and Vagner Love together and think it’s a good combo?Brazil has fallen won’t get up because their leader has no strategy. I hope Dunga fails and gets thrown out…even though ultimately he’s just a pawn by the CBF.Problem is that Dunga is there cause CBF doesn’t want a real coach. A real coach would want to make the decisions, which would involve, among other things, leaving some players that the crowd likes out of the squad, and playing ugly.
