Former Aston Villa striker and Colombian international Juan Pablo Angel scored twice to lead the New York Red Bulls over Toronto FC in front of 20,000 plus fans at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.
His free kick was a “thing of beauty” that made the Toronto FC wall irrelevant in front of a frozen goalkeeper.
Angel is proving out to be the “real deal” and an exceptional designated player signing in MLS.
He is truly coming to the league with commitment to produce goals and be successful. The professional attitude that Angel brings to MLS goes a long way towards perception to other international players considering playing in the league.
This may just become the best DP signing of the year in MLS and Angel is setting the bar high for Cuahutemoc Blanco who will join Chicago and David Beckham who will join the LA Galaxy. Lets just hope the Galaxy are in playoff contention by the time Beckham arrives. They still have only one win and are depleted for this weekend’s game at FC Dallas (HDNET).
CANADA GETS RESULT WITH DYNAMO PLAYERS
With two Dynamo players in the lineup Canada got a solid opening Gold Cup win at the Orange Bowl in Miami tonite over Costa Rica 2-1.
Julian De Guzman scored both of the goals for Canada countering a goal from Walter Centeno for the “Ticos”.
Onstad who was red-carded against FC Dallas for a professional foul on Arturo Alvarez was a late call up for Canada after a concussion to their starting goalkeeper.
Dynamo midfielder Dwayne DeRosario also went the distance for Canada.
