He was tearing it up in MLS under Curt Onalfo for the Kansas City Wizards before his call up to the Gold Cup and Copa America.
Thursday night he did create the penalty in the 4-1 loss to Argentina and I did hear Goltv announcer Ray Hudson raving about Johnson up front. I disagree a little with Ray on Johnson’s performance against Argentina. Although at times Johnson kept possession for the U.S. I did not feel he was agressive enough going at defenders.
Lets hope Bob Bradley can bend his ear and get him more agressive in the attacking third of the field both with his movement and runs off the ball but just his plain overall attitude. A few times during the Argentina game Johnson pulled out wide and got isolated against a lone defender yet turned and knocked the ball back into midfield. Can Bob Bradley get him running at people more? Can Bob Bradley get him more focused on getting into the penalty area where good things happen to strikers.
For me he was not hungry enough, not aggressive enough when thinking about goals. In the end his outstanding speed was never realized other than for the penalty.
Give me your thoughts on Eddie Johnson and the U.S. National team strikers?
Is Eddie Johnson the future upfront for the U.S. National team
Gbandi to miss Dynamo match again
Former Houston area product and FC Dallas defender Chris Gbandi will miss tonites match against the Houston Dynamo.
Gbandi missed the first meeting between the two rivals back on June 3 a 2-1 Dynamo win due to international commitment.
Gbandi was representing Liberia against Cameroon in a game he almost scored a spectacular goal against Samuel Eto’o and company. A long range blast from Gbandi was ticketed to the upper corner but picked out by the goalkeeper.
Gbandi misses tonites match due to card accumulation.
The Dynamo have the opportunity to close out June with a 6-0 record and lets not forget it was the June 3rd win over FC Dallas that broke the losing streak.
It will be interesting to see how Dominic Kinnear re-introduces Gold Cup players Dwayne DeRosario and Brian Ching into his line-up.
FC Dallas is struggling at the back without Gbandi and Drew Moor who is at the Copa America. Look for Bobby Rhine and David Wagenfuhr to fill in at the back but it should be an area the Dynamo gain an advantage.

Paraguay crushed Colombia 5-0 in in their opening Copa America group play.

Colombian goalkeeper Miguel Calero who plays for Mexican league champions Pachuca was beaten five times and looked slow and hesitant in goal.
The United States will play both of these teams in group play.

Brazil: Did they even care?
Now not to take anything away from a great result from Mexico but did Brazil even care last night in their 2-0 loss to Mexico.
No energy, limited imagination and not living up to the legendary Canary yellow jersey.
I know they were without Ronaldinho and Kaka and others but the whole theory of Brazil being able to field two or three national teams went out the window with that performance.
Mexico get deserved win over Brazil in Copa America
Mexico scored twice on a sleep walking Brazil devoid of Kaka and Ronaldinho in the first half behind goals from Nery Castillo (brilliant) and a stunning free kick from Ramon Morales to win 2-0. By the time Brazil woke up it was too late to break through great goalkeeping from Guillermo Ochoa despite the Brazilians outshooting Mexico 18-5.
With Jared Borgetti injured and Mexico without a trio of European stars youth served the Mexican national team well in the Gold Cup. The absence of Pavel Pardo, Ricardo Osorio and Carlos Salcido may have been considered a major loss heading into the match but in the end Mexico got a deserved result.
Thoughts: *The attacking future of Mexico revolves around Castillo.
* Guillermo Ochoa’s performance was impressive for a 21 year old. He is the future of Mexican goalkeeping
despite the great performance by Oswaldo Sanchez against the U.S.
* Brazilian first goal by Diego was ruled offside and should not have been
* For me Brazil was a disappoinment and did not seem motivated.
* The game clearly lacked the intensity and pace of the recent U.S./Mexico game.
* A victory over Brazil was a great response for the Mexican national team especially after the loss against the U.S. in
the Gold Cup.
* The win is especially important to set the tone for the Copa America for Mexico but one result does not convince
me of Hugo Sanchez.
DaMarcus Beasley signs with Rangers in Scotland
U.S. National team wide man DaMarcus Beasley has signed a three year deal with Rangers in Scotland,
After not having his contract re-newed at Manchester City, DMB will bring his game to the Scottish Premier League.
Beasley played a big part in helping the U.S. secure the Gold Cup title recently in the United States.
How will Beasley’s style mesh with the SPL? Thoughts?
Chile in amazing comeback win over Ecuador in Copa America
Ecuador failed to secure a third goal while nursing a 2-1 lead and it led to their undoing as Chile posted a remarkable 3-2 comeback victory. Chile scored the tying and go ahead goals in the 80th and 87th minute.
Humberto Suazo produced two fantastic goals for Chile to go along with an amazing free kick from Villanueva in the 87th minute that proved to be the game winner.
