More interesting news from MLS this week. Amado Guevara is seemingly out at Chivas USA. Fact is Bruce Arena wanted Guevara out of the Red Bull camp as quick as possible. On the field their is just to much liability and risk with this talented player.
Only Bob Bradley seemingly got the best out of him but Guevara is high maintenance and juvenile in his behavior when it comes to being a professional. He says he won’t go to Toronto FC but that may be his last hope if he doesn’t want to be banished back to the Honduran First Division. When Preki was named head coach of Chivas USA you knew these too would turn into an issue.
Juan Pablo Angel is in Salt Lake City with the New York Red Bulls waiting on his visa and will not be available tonite vs Real Salt Lake.
When they hired John Ellinger and Steve Pastorino a few years back I knew it was a mistake. It was a risk with John Ellinger who had spent the majority of his coaching career in an artificial environment at Bradenton in residency doing wonderful work with youth players. Sadly it didn’t transfer to the professional level.
Dane Richards has been performing well with the New York Red Bulls having been given a pre-season opportunity out wide with Markus Schopp injured. He has added great pace on the right side and will be competition for Schopp as he continues to work on his game. He is more than just pace yet he can improve his delivery and finishing in the final third and is a kid that wants it. IN short a good sign by New York and maybe one Houston could have picked up. He certainly would be great cover on the right side for Brian Mullan and would have been able to spell Mullan during a long season plus be a great late game sub against fatiguing defenders plus add the local connection.
Lets hope the Houston Dynamo can get back on track tonite at Colorado who played Monday in a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
It is a re-match of the Western Conference Final from last year and it will be interesting to see if Pablo Maestroeni will play at the back in or in midfield. Colorado is not bad out wide and has a true home field advantage with the largest field in the league which has been constructed on purpose to create a home field advantage much like the Dynamo like it tighter at Robertson.
Kyle Beckerman and Herculez Gomez can shoot from long range for the hard working, organized Rapids.
The Dynamo need a good break-out game, maybe the additional room will be a positive.
Looking forward to our call tonite on HDNET of the Red Bull and Real Salt Lake. See you Monday night at Firkin and Phoenix for the Dynamo Power Hour Radio Show.
