Local youth soccer club directors have come together to influence the future policy of player development in South Texas.
Youth soccer had gotten away from the purity of the game and player development overemphasizing results at younger age levels and inexplicably putting young, underdevloped bodies on full-sized fields placing the emphasis on endurance and strength.
Around the world small-sided soccer is endorsed by all experts and in many places is played naturally in the streets.
This adoption will increase the passion around the game for young children , in effect soccer is more fun with more contact on a ball. It will help to develop the skill set that leads to future enjoyment in the game and produce more technically proficient player that will ultimately make the college game and MLS more interesting with the addition of more players capable of doing more with a ball at their feet. But even more important it will produce even more youngsters passionate about soccer. For any parents confused about what to do at under 11 don’t buy into anyone telling you to play 11 a side soccer. It is not in the best interest of your son or daughter when it comes to enjoyment and player development.
Congratulations to these clubs and their directors that have moved the sport forward and will continute to do so:
CY FAIR DYNAMOS
TEXAS HEATWAVE boys only
ALBION HURRICANES
ECLIPSE
PURSUIT
HOUSTONIANS
SPACE CITY FUTBOL
TEXAS RUSH
TEXANS FC
TEXAS PREMIER
WEST HOUSTON

Lets hope these groups formalize and continue to meet regularly and shape the policy of player development. Coaching directors are accountable for the health of the game in South Texas and must look at the greater good of the game as a whole while building the best clubs that they can for their youth players. We are all in this together.
