Game On!
Club America’s second home outside Mexico City is Houston, TX.
Last night before a disapointing crowd of only 10,000 fans the “Aguilas” drew 1-1 with Tecos in their opening game of the 2007 Interliga
Truth be told Club America dominated the possession last night but the quality of soccer was average at best.
To be fair one could not expect teams to be hitting all cylinders after the winter break plus changes in their teams personel and tactics, on the other hand it is fair to say the quality at the interliga this year in Houston was sub-par.
Ok back to Club America, now I realize the weather was inclement but I believe the team has made so many stops here in Houston in the past couple of years that America fans are thinking that the opportunity to see the club is always right around the corner.
Oh another note. Cuauhtemoc Blanco played as an out and out striker and scored their lone goal on a free kick beating one of Mexico’s best goalkeepers Jose Corona who was a back-up at the last World Cup.
The free kick Blanco scored was called spectacular by commentators but truth be told it was not hit with much pace.
In Europe most goalkeepers would have CAUGHT that free kick let alone get scored on.
Mexican goalkeeping is average compared to the rest of the world. Exceptions are Oswaldo Sanchez, Jose Corona, and Ochoa of CA. Look for the quality of the interliga to take a step up this weekend in Frisco, TX.
For the record I am a big fan of the Mexican league and look forward to the opening of the Mexican League season
Is Club America overexposed in Houston
