DaMarcus Beasley has contributed in creating or scoring a goal in two straight games for Manchester City.
Saturday Beasley came off the bench at West Ham to produce the game winner in the 65th minute in the second consecutive win for Manchester City.
While Monday Beasley got the start for Manchester City against Everton for manager Stuart Pearce in a five man midfield. Beasley was an afterthought in the interior of the City midfield in the first half where he rarely got the ball and made little impact.
The second half found Beasley in more familiar wide spaces and the ‘jitterbug’ produced more activity and brought width to City after Pearce elected to go with a more traditional four man midfield. His beautifully turned back ball to the near post set up Greek Georgios Samaras for the games first goal.
Samaras would add a second in a 2-1 win from the penalty spot after a poor decision to come off his line from U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Beasley is a winger that will bring you width.
The flirtation of him playing central generally comes from coaches that are desperate with a team as a whole or have limited options. Playing him central also takes away some of the great qualities that make him an asset out wide.
Beasley has hit a bump in his career and maybe he is getting set to push out of the abyss Beasley’s star over two games is rising as Claudio Reyna’s is fading .
Fans will always judge the standard of the American player by those in Europe’s top leagues.
Beasley’s squabble with Bruce Arena at the World Cup soured him to some but he still remains an integral part of the U.S. National team future.
I don’t know about you but I certainly like seeing him in a U.S. uniform.
